My neighbor has a rat infestation issue but I previously used diplomacy to talk my own rat infestation out, and I even won the disgraced rat bandit chief without a bit of violence–just letting lots and lots of rats share my lunches for a while to get him on my side.
But if I try to help my neighbor with their rat problem it looks like that would involve a violent action against the rats, right?
Second, though it sounds like the apex of foolishness to ask; would taking ‘rat hunter’ as a profession only sour future story interactions with my pet and potential rat allies? Or would it earn me their respect in some way? (I apparently can become a rat hunter even though I never completed the first story bit about hunting a R.O.U.S. (rodent of unusual size) as I am against poisoning or physically harming the crafts-rats, nor do I want to start a race-war against the little fellows. Also I never hold onto strings of dead rats, I sell those off in case that might cause my rat companions to judge me)
third, I’m trying to decide on a profession but don’t know what to pick since I cannot make clock work toys or work directly for rat-kind… edited by Mushika on 7/21/2013
But if I try to help my neighbor with their rat problem it looks like that would involve a violent action against the rats, right?
Not necessarily. The results are vague on what sort of methods you use to rid your neighbor’s home of the rats. It’s not rationalization, really. The results are open-ended to allow you to employ your imagination to determine how you deal with the situation. You could also simply discard the card.

Regardless, I advise you against choosing this profession. The story bits that accompany it only reinforce the notion that you’re playing the role of Death of ratkind. Instead of a scythe, you wield a Ratting Piece.

As a Campaigner, you can try to rally support for rats. As an Enforcer, you can patrol and intimidate the city with the help of your rodent gang. As a Watcher, you can hire rats as additional eyes and ears for your information network. The narrative frameworks of the professions are loose enough that you can build up any job the way you want with your imagination alone. Besides, you can always quit without consequence if you don’t like the work!
