Worst decision?

What’s the worst/dumbest mistake you’ve made and why?

Starting the Affluent Photographer story. Because.

Using my Rat of Glory, which resulted in the loss of all my SMEN items. Aaaah, that was a hard time.

I’d done an expedition and gained an Eyeless Skull. I didn’t really understand what they were about, or know anything about the Cave of the Nadir. I received a social action from a player I’d never met before, requesting an Eyeless Skull. Not knowing that it was worth E62.5, or that I’d need four (now five) more of the things later on, I handed it over without so much as a word shared between us.

Nowadays I know that I can accumulate that much wealth without too much hassle, so it’s no huge deal, but at the time the loss was devastating when I realised what had transpired - not only that I’d given away such a valuable item without so much as a &quotthanks&quot in return, but also that I now needed to grind for rare successes to get an EXTRA Eyeless Skull that I wouldn’t have needed to (re)obtain otherwise.

(I sometimes wonder if they had progressed to the point where they could send the action to request them, and just chose not to progress further because they could just look at who’d recently done the action to get one and grabbed it from them, gaining massive profits from naive players who didn’t know they were being swindled.)

Probably, they just pressed the ‘suggest a contact’ button on the action, and then sent the requests out to them.

Sold my Level 15 Plant. Such a pain to get that back up - and what a waste of resources!

I enacted the Topsy King’s Opera in Veilgarden for what was at the time a lot of resources, instead of waiting a few days to make my last work on the Court out of it.

The Affluent Photographer cannot be avoided so there is no decision anyway.

SMEN is laden with warning and you can back out of it with little consequence after that. (And some people like it.)

Plants can be sold carelessly, but be regained with time and effort. And there’s a way to make sure no plant cards resurface, too.

Eyeless Skulls are laden with warning and you can get rid of them with little consequence, and even with profit. (And people need it. And being generous to others isn’t bad.)

Struggling Artist, however, has no warning labels, and has a permanent negative effect on your gameplay plus a lack of closure. (It is in my nature to whine about the artist.)

Given that there’s no option to either pay the Struggling Artist a whole bunch of Echoes to be rid of him permanently, nor any option to set him on fire and distribute the ashes at Zee (too harsh?), I see no reason to blame you for that in any way whatsoever. :-)

You can always just move out of London and not notify him of your new address. I find that helps.

I drank bottled oblivion.

I reached the Court without making the flirting storylines (too much of a bother). But, in doing this, my Persuasive stat was shamefully low. It was a day before I aknowledging patrons as a thing. Then, I decided it couldn’t hurt to strike a friendly friendship with a pair of artists in Veilgarden, just for a Persuasive boost (thinking that I could just do something stupid and part bitterly/cluelessly with them, as I did with the Jewel Thief and the Heiress).

Some FL characters simply don’t have any sense of decency and/or personal space. You would think that, after 100 or so snubs, they would stop asking you for money or for a free bouncing job.

After much pain and grinding, I erroneously sold a bunch of my First City Coins necessary for my Ambition: Heart’s desire.
I was a young character with few resources, so I resigned to spend a bit of my connected: the masters to make more coins. What a colossal waste.

As someone who has sworn to kill certain people anyway, and who also made the mistake of romancing both the Artist and the Model just to see if either of them would notice, I would probably pay a small amount of Fate a few times to try permanently murdering the Artist.

It wouldn’t even have to be a good chance of success, either.

I’m not a philistine, and as I said, I would not need certainty. But if I succeeded, he would die artistically and without warning, before what talent he had flamed out, as he returned home from a successful vernissage. I would pay for a bronze effigy in the Aesthetic style. Groupies would weep at his mushroom-strewn grave; women wishing to conceive would make little pilgrimages to stroke his bronze loins, until they were worn to a shine.

I think this is a fair offer, expecially as my alternative plan involves luring him to my lodgings to rekindle our awful realtionship, then going full Seymour Krelborn with the aid of a certain Plant.

I took pity on the repentant forger and sold a certain painting. Curse my compassion!

Also, yes, that stupid artist. I have a cask of amontillado ready for him should the opportunity present itself.

I am grateful that i don’t have to deal with him, but if i did, i have a nice elderberry wine recipe for him. I got it from my darling aunts abby and martha. I’m sure he would enjoy it.

I miscounted the number of goldfish I had.
And so the Last Constable’s Goldfish, who I had carried from almost the beginning of the game, to the start of the end game grinding, was unceremoniously fed to a plant.

Rushing through the jungle in Flint. I loved the storylets, but it was incredibly easy in comparison to all the buildup. This led me to believe I would need to preserve my items for the return trip. Instead I was just locked out forever. :(

(I actually don’t mind the artist that much, but that’s because my forceful is terribly low, so I used him to get back up to five after increasing my docks renown.)
Choosing the Shroud over the Glass thinking if Glass magic works, then Shroud magic might actually be real . . .

Ooohhh, I misclicked Shroud when I meant to choose Glass, and seeing the affiliations in my Contacts has been annoying me ever since, far more than I cared about the story itself, I have to say…
