So is it not possible to improve the load times for the wiki at all? That would definitely be a shame. It’s sometimes even timing out. On all kinds of pages, even very short articles that theoretically “shouldn’t” be difficult to load. It’s such a great and well maintained resource, but sometimes it’s difficult to use just because of the load times.
It’s weirdly a completely different experience for me. I rarely experience any extended load times on the wiki (not counting the rare complete time out).
Yeah, same. I don’t understand enough of the technology behind it all, but how is it even possible that different users with more-or-less comparable internet setups can have such vastly different loading experiences on the same site?
Is there anything individual users can do to make a particular site more responsive to them? (That is, anything except regular ritual sacrifices to the Gods of the Internet?)
Currently having hard refresh as the only way forwards on the game’s cards. Again, I thought we just knew this and the infrastructure for the game is so old we accepted it as necessary. If it isn’t I wanna let people know.
Yeah, I rarely if ever have wiki lag but I’ll have major (10ish seconds) lag when playing the game itself, especially in the morning hours of PST
I can report that the wiki is super slow right now while the game is fine.
Game is running quite slow at this moment (12:57 UTC). At the longest, I counted 12 seconds for swapping a single piece of equipment; and getting cases of outfit swaps failing to “take” (outfit selection menu remaining blacked out, while the page never actually reloads), as well as opportunity cards failing to update after playing a card and returning to the main page (i.e., the card just played is still visible but not interactable, requiring a full page refresh in order to draw the next card).
However, these problems are interspersed with the game running quite snappily, as good as normal. It seems quite inconsistent, even moment-to-moment.
I can confirm it’s unusually messy for me today as well. It’s taking ages or failing to load responses from clicks like equipment changes, playing cards/reloading decks, and “Onwards” buttons a lot of the time. But it can be snappy and responsive too at random moments. It feels very inconsistent.
I get this problem with a played card a lot. It doesn’t leave the deck, but you can’t click on it and you have to refresh to get it to go away. I’ve also seen a lot of immediately repeated cards but I thought that was just the demon RNG.
The wiki was throwing 502 errors and very slow yesterday.
This phenomenon has existed in the entire 12ish years I have been playing the game… The devs have always insisted that it is just confirmation bias, but I remain privately convinced that it happens more often than it should based on just random chance.
After all, there was a huge bug in card draw frequencies that was only caught 6 years ago, not by FBG themselves but by an extremely dedicated player no less (Major bug in the card drawing mechanism). It seems entirely possible to me that whatever is going on under the hood with that code occasionally hiccups in a different way that is hard to prove and diagnose.
