What to bring to the tomb colonies?

To get a tomb lion, I’m going to experience a scandalous departure from London. Before that, are there any preparations I should make for my time in the colonies?

For the lion, some tincture of vigour at least.

The deck’s smaller- 22 cards at most, and less if you have dreams of the burial of the dead low enough- and there’s two cards that give tomb-colonist favors, so if you can, you might want to cash in favors with them before you go- and go with 3 cards in the deck- iirc, that’ll leave you with 6 when you arrive. Then hold onto 4 bad cards, and you can get 1 tomb-colonist favor per 9 cards- not amazing, but faster than in london.

You should have at least space for 3 favors as a result, IMO, and more space is better, since you’re looking for a specific card and you might get the favor cards multiple times while looking.

Don’t forget the tincture of vigour for the lion either, but i assumed you remembered that.

Make sure it’s a full Tincture too, not one of the Half-Full ones.

Ah, that’s good to know. I had wondered if it was important to bring favors for anything. I hadn’t considered ditching them first.

Tincture of Vigor for a lion and a Moddist Bonnet, to farm Tomb Colonist favors.

The tomb-colonies don’t auto-return at scandal = 0, so you don’t need to worry about keeping your scandal up, actually.

I could have sworn that they need Scandal to work, or be drawn… I can’t remember, though. It’s been a while since I last vacationed there.

If you want to get out faster, having a Sudden Insight or two and wounds/nightmares which are not particularly high will help a small amount.

You’ll have a few more options available if you’ve finished stories like the Comtessa, the Dashing Smuggler and the LB Lodgings Invasion, but it’s nothing so advantageous that you really ought to complete those stories just for this purpose.

You’ll have one extra option for gaining TC favours if you have SOTC 1 and Archaeologist 1, and that IS probably worth doing.

Arguably, if you want tomb-colonist favors, finishing the LB lodgings invasion and the dashing smuggler is actually detrimental- though by menace zome standards they’re both good, neither is Tomb-colonist favor quality cards, and they bloat your deck. That said, it’s not a big deal either way.

Comtessa is actually one of the two TC favor cards, though.

What do we lose when we move there? I also need a Tomb Lion and I have been avoiding it, for role-playing reasons…

For the tomb lion you’ll need a tincture of vigour, and the ability to breed beasts in the labyrinth. Nothing else you really need to bring.
The ending option there can halve your austere/hedonist or both, depending on your choice.

You’re stuck there until you clear your menaces and return.

Other than time (actions) spent there and returning, you won’t lose anything really. Unless you have both Hedonist and Austere at 10. Then it might hurt to leave.

Thank you!
