what is becoming better in death?

OK, strange title but the idea is to ask: we know that SS is thought to be played with a succession of captains. We know also that when you die you can give things to your new captain in form of legacies so that’s good from a mechanical point of view.
But does death bring other advantages? for example, are there some legacies that switch on only after a certain number of runs (like those Steam achievements that compute the total number of X killed throughout the whole game)? or some storylines that need two or three captains to be completed? or some events that appear only after the first run?

So in general, what does death bring that is not achievable with just one run?

Well, knowledge, of course. In a more built-in sense, someone (you?) recently brought up an area that can only be accessed if you’ve had a captain die at zee (sadly only after a certain update; my own beginning captains don’t count). It’s currently impossible to obtain all legacy advantages with a single captain, since several of them are game-enders, so there’s that as well. I presume any lineage-related actions also require the existence of a lineage, although to my limited and secondhand knowledge, most of those actions are bad things involving the end of said lineage…
