Weekly Fallen London Questions, 29/12/2025

Here’s this week’s thread for any Fallen London questions you don’t want to start a whole thread for! It’s the last quick questions thread of 1899 - and the first one of 1899!

Season’s greetings.

Apologies for vagueness, but a few months ago FL added an old exceptional story for anyone to (re)play - the one about a competitor to the throne arriving from the Surface.

I’m sure I clicked on something to start this but can find no sign of how to proceed. Any pointers please?

That sounds like “the empress shadow”, which, according to my notes, is a 2016 christmas story.
The opening storylet was The Empress’ Shadow: A Royal Barge at Wolfstack Docks
Then “Seek more gossip about the Empress’ Shadow” (but I don’t know where)
And after that it should be at Ladybone’s road.
Also look for “Sinning Jenny’s Finishing School” in your qualities.

The free ES is Reunion and should be unlockable in Fifth City Stories. After that it should be in your Exceptional Library.

I just realized, horrified, that a Stain on ones Soul locks getting The Inescapable Ubiquity of your Countenance.
There is no secret way to get that stain out, is there?

There is, but its rather expensive. You need to play both parts of Flint, if I recall correctly. It’s the only 2-parter ES.

Well, it’s on the list anyways!
Thanks for the hint.
Is it a missable Option or does one understand clearly where to launder ones Soul?

It is one possible reward at the very very end of Flint (when turning in the McGuffin to the Bishop of St Fiacre’s), and it is clearly marked.

This isn’t really a question but I just figured I’d follow up on the matter I asked about in the last questions thread.
Uh, the fact that upconverting Broken Giant '44 gives you 5 Cellars of Wine at a time and the fact that amber is easy to pickpocket in extremely large quantities left me with enough to give the gambling one try rather quickly, and I came in prepared to use some second chances and do some more grinding if I needed to (do second chances even work that way? If I succeed a 97% Watchful check but fail a luck check, and I used a Sudden Insight, can I ‘perhaps not’ out of the failed luck check?), and, uh.
I got the ship first-try. The Fallen London random number generator smiles upon me today, I suppose.

It’s the cat thing, I’m sure. It has a positively mushy spot for cats (all sizes).
