Weekly Fallen London Questions, 28/04/2025

Here’s this week’s thread for quick Fallen London questions!

Am I understanding correctly that to get maximum Scrip from Rat Market, I should sell whatever I can (minding the Saturation thresholds), and then just buy Preserved Surface Blooms to sell in the Hinterlands market? Or is there some smarter way?

Buying wares for 1 Shilling, selling them for Echoes, buying Bright Brass Skulls with those and putting them on Skeletons with Seven Necks (or Headless Skeletons/Licentiate Victims) to sell them to a buyer that pays out in Scrip (or Scrip sellable wares) is generally more efficient. It costs extra actions though. If you just have a lot of stuff lying around and want to get it turned to Scrip, I believe Solace Fruit have the ‘best’ rate of Shillings to Scrip.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, because of those +10-15% payout bonuses. Thank you!

Another question, let’s say I have fully finished train line and 11 Board members, and want them to stay on the Board just for RP reasons (though I’m fine with e.g. rotating T.E. for Corporate Debt reduction). Is there a reasonable way to use this Board for anything remotely profitable?

(Members are: Cornelius, January, September, Tentacled Entrepreneur, The Dean of Xenotheology, The Delightful Reverend, The Drummer, The Gracious Widow, The Hell-Scarred Gondolier, The Viscountess, Virginia. And tbh I’d love to add everyone else too lol)

I don’t care about Banditry, I just throw Steel at it. On the other hand, my Player of Chess is only 11 total (I’ll increase it during seasonal events), and I’m not sure if this is enough to farm Epaulette Mates, or is it even worth it anyway?

I was thinking about resetting major storylines and I realised that it might make sense narratively to be a reward for finishing Firmament?
If the Stacks is a library of prohibited histories maybe by the end of Firmament we can gain the power to swap a prohibited history for a real one and thus restart a major storyline. I envisioned it as involving some sacrifices though, like a combination of T8 items and Fate.
Any opinions?

Good news, this is exactly enough for Epaulette Mates. Is adding Furnace is not an option for you for the Queen Mate usage, especially since you can occasionally get those in exchange for favours at Jericho?

Unrelated to board membership, you may want to look into buying Tinned Ham in the hinterlands, selling it in London, buying skulls with the proceeds for the Bone Market bonuses, and then repeating. This requires keeping the spare currency at hand instead of using it, but otherwise requires no additional actions assuming you’re regularly traveling back and forth and assembling skeletons anyways.

I hope this is the right place to ask a possibly dumb question - I’m coming back to Fallen London after about four years, which means quite a few things have changed…

I’m following the stolen comb storyline, and after tracking the suspect, I was told to go to the Flit to plan a second heist to regain the comb. However, when I went back to Flit, I got notice that told me that I needed to go to my lodgings to plan the heist at home (there was a technical term, but I didn’t note it down). However, now I’m stuck.
I’m at home, and I can’t find anything that continues the storyline, looks like it is part of a heist planning, or any option with the casing (shadow of a hand over gold) symbol that was with the instruction telling me to go to my home. There’s also nothing relevant in the Flit, so that seems to be a dead end. Where should I be looking?

This is the second story thread I’ve ‘lost’ since restarting playing - being told to go to a specific location and then the options to continue the story aren’t there :worried:

I think that was a place I got stuck too, and the solution was to get some level of casing (I think 5?) and then check all the places that have anything to do with either type of heist in flit (it’s a maze of storylets, all alike). IIRC the first heist was a full “go in the heist area and get burglar’s progress”, and the second was just “click this branch to progress the story”?

Thanks so much! The first time, it looked like I needed to pick the location before starting the casing, but this time I increased the casing, and the option then appeared…
