Weekly Fallen London Questions, 26/07/2021

Here’s this week’s quick questions thread!

Oneiromantic Revelations don’t show up for me under cartography. I’d like to mash them into a Parabolan Parable. is this a bug or should I look somewhere else?

Sounds like a bug. I can see them normally, right between Vitreous Almanacs and Salt Steppe Atlases.
Have you tried refreshing? Sometimes, newly obtained items fail to show up until you restart the page…

Is it possible to get BDR to zero once you have a club? I am in Sophia’s, so D is immovable. I checked the wiki on how to get a clockwork drownie, and it seems I need zero.

There are a number of items that can lower those stats by large amounts: I’d recommend Forty-Nine-Voiced Warbler - Fallen London Wiki for Dreaded.

Ooh, you got me to the wiki. SPOILER ALERT AWOOGA AWOOGA! I tend to get sucked in and learn more than I want to… I prefer to run spoiler-light, but sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Anyway, thank you for the idea. I checked the dreaded items list, and tentacle mitts are within my grasp. When I get to parabola (soonish) maybe a possessed goldfish.

B, D, and R each have a -12 companion that you get from the same place in Parabola as that goldfish. Once you can get there you should be all set

I had an issue during the conclusion of the story of the grand clear-out.

When you have the option to:

contribute an item to the Masters rescue of London, I took the Artisan of the Red science check first, to learn a little more before I did. There was some text to say ‘this won’t contribute anything but you’ll learn more’. However, I found this to be unclear that it would move things along; I took it as being a chance to learn more before committing an item. Which is a common recent mechanic in various stories. I had almost every high level item option available - even a sealed copy of the crimson book

I ended up finishing the story with neither of the meta-qualities achieved before you ‘collapse in bed’. Which was disappointing.

Taking that option doesn’t move things on - you were able to take the Artisan check and then contribute an item to the process and get the reward.

Remember where it said “Once the Masters have received enough help from Londoners, this story will only be available for approximately 24 hours more”?

I suspect what happened was that you clicked that option after the 24 hours had passed. I also examined the plans with my knowledge of the Red Science, but it brought me back to the storylet to donate an item. But if the storylet was no longer available, it wouldn’t bring you back to it.

I believe the 24 hours were over around 11pm GMT. I’m not certain of that, though.

What happens to leftover Cthonic Scrip? I have 20 left for various reasons and none of the items left are that useful to me.

The event isn’t quite done yet. When the epilogue comes leftover scrip will probably be converted into something useful. As I recall, that is sometimes the way with event currencies, and I imagine they will do that since this was a unique, one-time thing.

I wasn’t.

I took that check - and then that list of options of what to contribute was not redisplayed.

I was surprised, as I expected it to be.
It’s potentially a bug then.

Is there some way it could be reverted, so I can still take the choice I wanted to?

Thanks for the additional context.

I saw a timer saying I had 2 hours left.
I figured that was either world based, or specific to the user

Regardless, I made the choice about 15 minutes later ( as I was at work) but still well within time, and it moved me ahead.

You should have been able to re-enter the list of options from the “Building a Device” storylet. Though it did indeed disappear once the timer ran out.

Oh damn.

I was quick to choose one option within 15 minutes, but might have taken longer to go through the whole storylet, before being ‘back in London’ due to being at work.

I was expecting to be returned to the list after choosing the red science option. Because it just progressed, rather than relisting I thought it had gone away.

That’s unfortunate - a bit misleading vs. the usual mechanic of ‘make sure you’ve asked everything you want to’.
A wee line of 'you’ll still be able to return to help contribute to the device if you conclude this storylet before the timer runs out.

In the company of monsters: I have a hyena. Does that prevent me from getting seals and lions? Is breeding strictly one at a time?

Nope. There’s even an option for breeding all four at once.

Thanks! I have now discovered that you can have one of each, but not more than one hyena or seal (or presumably any kind.)
