Twelvetide begins, the lacre rises, and the Crimson Beast of Winter stalks the streets of London! Here’s this week’s thread for short questions!
During this holiday season, I’ve heard that one can obtain Cantigaster Venom from one of the fate options. If I already have a very good dangerous weapon (Feducci’s lance), is there a good reason to get it? I ask this because I once saw an option for Cantigaster Venom on the Last Constable story, and wonder if there are any special uses for it besides that.
Apologies for what seems like a rather basic question, but it has never come up for me before. I know that Making Waves halves every week when TTH rolls around and that it is also compared with your Notability to see if Notability drops. But… In what order does that happen? Does it compare the halved value or the original value with your Notability? I’ve never paid any attention before because it has never mattered. Now suddenly, and rather urgently it does matter. :)
It compares the original value, no worries.
Well that’s a relief. I half-thought that was the case, but then had a sudden panic. Thank you very much.

That’s the first use for Cantigaster Venom I’ve seen.[li]
Good morning friends. I asked Amanuensis, but only reaction he was capable of was bulging his eyes and goggling wildly. So the question is: what’s a point of Notability? I mean yes, I had grinded it to 5 to acquire a top job, and I will spend 3 to set up an Orphanage, and I get lovely Unsigned Messages from time to time. And I see incredible pricey (probably less incredible at a top of play) way to exchange tons of N. for Faction cards summoning. Did I miss any important motivation to do N.?
Some seasonal events (like hallowmas and christmas) use notability for things. Also some of the upper wine tier upconversions use notability.
If you’re asking what exactly it is in-universe, that’s a bit fuzzy. Yes, you get a more prominent mention in Slowcake’s, but why you can use that to get wine and what exactly happens in the exchange isn’t exactly clear. Might just be some abstraction, might be a game mechanic we’re not supposed to think too closely about.
Now I remember I’ve seen an option during Hallowmas, thank you! I asked about particular uses of subject indeed. Concerning in-game interpretation, I always imagined Notability as a sort of indirect authority (and/or notoriety), allowing character to benefit from otherwise restricted privileges.

Another thing that came to mind is specializations and the stat overcapping that comes with them. It takes 5 to get a specialization and you can then convert notability to stat points over 200 at 1:1 (max stat being 215 with 15 notability). Also, of course, Paramount Presence, the ostensibly best specialization, that lacks the features and content of the normal ones and takes an absurd amount of notability grinding to reach.

Thank you, I was just a wondering about that for a bit. I am also thinking of getting exceptional friendship for the first time, and am curious about picking the SMEN option when being invited to the House of Chimes. I would appreciate it if anyone could PM me the consequences to make sure that I know what I am getting into.
The smen option has minor negatives and doesn’t give you access, making you select again iirc. Tbh better off selecting a different one, go for the missable Scarlet Saint quality I’d say!

TBH if you’re doing SMEN, you might as well not do things by halves - pick the option anyway, for science.
I might as well. I don’t really care about Scarlet Saint status anyways so I guess I’ll finally put my Connections: Masters to good use, since I’ve been shilling for them since the beginning of the game. I do partially resent them though for giving me a criminal record this holiday season.
I have a question. If I were to remove someone from my contacts list, would I also be removed from their contacts list as well?
I don’t believe you would be, since adding someone to your contacts doesn’t add you to theirs (not until you sent a social action, at least).
What time does the new ES usually rolls over? Anxiously waiting for someone to process my subscription before that happens.
The new ES usually comes out at 12 Noon, UK time - so in about 12 hours time.
A question about the season stories: if i am not a subscriber, but i buy 3 of the stories with fate of a particular season, can i still play the actual season content or just the stand alone stories?
You can still play the final story that wraps the season up, yes.
