Weekly Fallen London Questions, 25/11/2024

Here’s this week’s thread for quick Fallen London questions!

From last week’s thread, psgarak asked:

so uh… there’s no realistic way to get seven hundred storm-threnodies in a week, right?

I’m pretty much set for Doubled Spring except for that one requirement. I got a hundred tears, a hundred night-whispers. I can force-drawn the Urchins card four or five times a day. All sets. Except Storm-Threnodies.

I have lots of other assets and materials that I would be willing to trade, smelt, or be shriven of at dubious exchange rates. But that one, specifically, seems to be stubbornly exchange-resistant.

Probably because of the Rat Market.

The wiki certainly doesn’t suggest any easy way. Upconverting would need 140 Urchin favours, which seems unlikely in a week. Philosofruits from the Mushroom’s Dream looks like the most action efficient but being card-dependent probably means it’s not that efficient (the deck’s infinite draw, so at least that wouldn’t be a limiting factor). Otherwise you’re at 6 actions per Threnody at Evenlode or Polythreme.

You can get 15 ST a day by litigating cases at the magistry. Force drawing urchins would get you 25 a day or so, which is 175 a week. You could get to 700 pretty easily by late december before the wicket opens, but I guess you also need to grind pails in December? Dunno how long you can grind pails, but if through January, you can flip cards to get lacre while doing pails in January. So maybe possible? I guess you’d have to do the accounting, but sounds like a stressful Neathmas!

Hey, I have a question about grinding. Hope this is the right place to ask. I’ve recently become a PoSI and I need to grind rumours and nostalgia for favours in high places, book of hidden bodies, bribes, permits among other things.
What is the most efficient way to grind rumours and nostalgia items? For rumours, I exchange revolutionary favours and do the foreign office for proscribed materials to convert or bribe the ministry of public decency in the mahogany hall. For nostalgia, I usually just repeat “doing the decent thing” and up convert the honey. Would like to know if there are more efficient ways to go about this grind! Thanks!

The Wiki’s your friend for this sort of generalised “how do I grind X?” query (search for the item in question and follow the link to the general type-of-x Grinding (Guide) page:

You’ll need to look through the options for the level of the game you’re at currently as there’s likely to be a bunch of late-game options listed.
