Weekly Fallen London Questions, 24/08/2026

Here’s this week’s thread for any Fallen London questions you don’t want to start a whole thread for!

What’s the best way to make the most money from the Whale Guiding rewards? Upconverting, where to sell them, that kind of thing

Broadly speaking there’s not much profit to be had in upconverting—there’s some exceptions but none that I’m aware of for these particular items.

The Stygian Ivory can be sold somewhat more profitably in the bone market once you’ve unlocked that, or in the upper river exchange for scrip (which isn’t more profitable than selling it for echos but may be more useful since scrip grinds are generally more limited)

Carved Balls of Stygian Ivory from the Whale have three additional uses:

  1. For the best € profit, sell the Balls in the Khanate, buy Crackling Devices with Khaganian Coins, and sell the Devices at the Rat Market
  2. if you need Scrip instead, sell the Balls directly in the Upper River
  3. finally, Balls are useful in the Bone Market because they occupy a neck without adding a head, so you can use them e.g. to build Spiders (0 heads) or to complete Prismatic Frames (3 necks).

The rest of the Whale rewards are basically worth only their € value.

I started and abandoned the Candlefinder Society ages ago. I am on the Missing Comb case and seem to have reached 90, which is Rob the Wayward Admirer’s Sanctum. I have five casing but the option doesn’t appear on the list of heists. Do I need more casing or am I missing something else?

Looking at the Wiki, it looks like it’s an option from The Big Score, rather than a Heist. So a simple break & enter rather than a whole activity. Which is odd, I swear I’ve seen the Wayward Admirer on the list of Heists somewhere, but it’s been a while since I’ve done that case so I might be mistaken.

Oh thank you. You are right. I never thought of that.

.. I remember struggling with the same problem.
