Is there any way to unlock red science before the railway? I want to spend a bit more time in London, zee and parabola based stories and not rush but I’m a correspondent and it’s starting to hurt my professional activities.

There used to be, but outside of having Ambition: Bag a Legend! there is no way to to boost pre-railway AORTS, aside from having equipment that increases it. If it helps, you only have to complete a tiny bit of the beginning of the Railway (not even to the first station) before you get your first Red Science point and it can then be increased normally.
