Here is this week’s thread for the very quickest of questions!
Are there surveys or compiled game data about the players’ fave professions, ambitions and so on?
Why do the fur-lined boots which specifically state how warm they are to wear not get neathproofed but the iguana-skin get that quality? Seems a bit of an oversight to me.
I believe that’s down to the iguana boots being closely related to the rubbery dragon, and generating enough heat to cause wood to smoulder.
Any specific uses for a reflected minotaur? As in storylets? With the Honey Connoisseur I don’t really care for his glasswork bonus, and I want a reason to use him. He looks extremely cool.

That could change in the future, though, as it’s kinda weird that only four creatures out of the possible twenty four have no other use aside from stat increases, although I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I get the impression that FBG didn’t anticipate the value players would place on companions unlocking actions. Companions from the first Whitsun have a few unlocks for flavour, but for the Percipient byproducts they’re viewing it as part of the “complete package” of the companions.
Note that while only four companions from the first Whitsun have no use, another four have no repeatable, and two have uses which are mutually exclusive (Salon vs Orphanage). Only six O.G. companions have repeatable uses available to every player, while all eight Percipient companions unlock actions of this type.
A certain Cottage out on the Hill bares a sign which states the following:
I do not see such an option in my lodgings, nor in lodging-adjacent locations. Please advice.

Newbie question: the guides do not state the best location to gain basic items. I am in need of many whispered hints - Spite or Veilgarden? And foxfire candles, and I am sure others will need other basics. If anyone here edits the wiki this would be great to add to the beginner guide. Meanwhile: what is the best place for the hints please?

This is Knife and Candle content, which has been retired. Don’t worry about it.
Generally, there may be better options based on how far you’ve gotten in the Making Your Name storylines, so either spend a few actions on storylets unlocked by MYN (These will specifically be unlocked by "A Name…" qualities) or search up the storylets you currently have access to on the wiki to see which ones will give Hints. For example if you’ve gotten to catchasing that can be very useful for getting Hints.
Otherwise, you can find very slow options, such as "Life in Ladybones Road".
Once you hit POSI (very very far off from now) you will get more grindable options (called Unfinished Business), but don’t worry about that for now.
It’s hard to answer, because it really depends on your stats! And how far you’ve progressed the making your name stories. By "newbie", do you mean stats 0-30, 30-60, 60-100?
If you have stats in the 0-20 range, you can get whispered hints from "listen to gossip at the hangman’s arch" in ladybones road, for 10 per action. After your stats are over 20 that’s less profitable than just buying them at the bazaar, though. If you’ve unlocked the Forgotten Quarter (so, watchful 60+) then you can get whispered hints pretty easily by seeking curios and secrets in the forgotten quarter.
If you’ve advanced persuasive to the mid-50s, then "The Demands of High Society" in Veilgarden gives you them, once you have Darling of the Ambassador’s Ball.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen information on professions in the past and recall that the differences in popularity are fairly stark. I thought it was on here, actually – a poll by another player maybe, but I haven’t been able to find it (the search function being rubbish). My own profession (Licentiate) was around the 5% mark at the time. But the slew of new content has opened up advantages for many of the professions, so presumably preferences have shifted in the meantime.
On ambitions, there is only one (I believe) for which FB offers the option to ditch it and start again. There’s doubtless a reason for that…
This might be interesting to you (it’s a pie chart from about 2 months ago showing the popularity of all ambition endings - obviously, major ambition spoilers within)
Thank you! I find it weird that it’s color-coded by popularity instead by, say, Ambition, but it’s basically what I hoped for, so I can’t be too mad :D

So, does that mean i’m just stuck with a bunch of completely useless items, with no ability to sell or redeem them?
I thought the whole point was to leave participants a way to cash in their tokens, even though K&C has been retired.

This is probably because the cheapest option is a five token trade-in (a brass-ring). The remaining tokens you have could be considered antique coins, like the retired five-cent coin we have here in New Zealand. Functionally worthless, but cool to have.
Ah, I see I am 30-60 in my lower ones, 60-100 in danger and watchful and can just get over 100 watchful with the right equipment. I need the hints for supply crates in the forgotten quarter expeditions. Thank you for the suggestions.
The wiki can be a little unhelpful here- sources tend to relate to choices on the cards/storylets rather than the main title, so finding them is tricksy.
Nevertheless, ONWARDS! The university shall open its doors to me soon!
I know alt accounts are widely used for various reasons. Mostly menace reduction, menace gain, MW gain, stat boost, another ambition and seeking.
But I am not sure how much is allowed. To specify, is using alt accout for {tournamant of lillies/ slight/ epislatory matters/ make tons of alt accouts and send a rat of glory/ make tons of alt accounts and send normal gifts via ‘give a gift! A commotion~~’} allowed?
And the same, I suppose, goes for my Iron Knife tokens, Moon League badge, my Wistful Rose third class, and my Shroud of Little Midnights?
And the same, I suppose, goes for my Iron Knife tokens, Moon League badge, my Wistful Rose third class, and my Shroud of Little Midnights?
Well, yes. It’s not as if they had much of a purpose outside of Knife-and-Candle to begin with, so it’s not that surprising that there’s very little use for them in the wider game post Knife-and-Candle. The only thing out of the items you listed that could have a potentially clear cut echo value is the Shroud of Little Midnights, which has an estimated value of 14-15 echoes given that it takes 9 tokens to acquire while the brass ring takes 8.
