When should I start Smen?

At what stage of the game would you recommend starting the “Smen” quest? I shamelessly created a second account for this purpose, and now I’m wondering when is the best time to start in order to experience the full range of emotions and complete it as quickly and… uh… comfortably as possible? Should I become a person of some importance at first? Buy a ship? Complete an ambition?
Not sure this will be super-helpful, but there was a discussion about this some considerable time ago, so a search may turn up a/the thread. I never planned to do this myself and so only skimmed it.

I’d say, just start it as soon as possible. Going through Marsh mired in dreams is a large time gate. Just go through content to get to profitable activities in the meantime and prioritize Watchful. There are some festival specific things that can help with certain steps in smen (overtuned estival activities, a destiny, a noman). Just get it started so you might be at the right step for the right time.
On another issue: I’ve just encountered an activity that loses you a free evening even on refusal. What’s up with that? (Upper level patron offer, seems to me – I’m a long way past fretting over stat levels in the early to mid game.)

I believe there is a still active access code that grants three invitations.
