Weekly Fallen London Questions, 13/07/2026

Here’s this week’s thread for any Fallen London questions you don’t want to start a whole thread for!

Now that the novelty has worn off a bit—how is everyone feeling about Hillchanger? Worth doing if you have everything on hand already obviously, but it seems like it’d be fairly complex to design a grind around such a diverse list of item inputs

I think it is worth noting how it compares to the “Gold Standard” of “grinds”: getting items to sell at the Rat Market.
Both cycle through varied “demands”, which, when fulfilled, gets you a profit, when comparing to just selling ‘em at the bazaar.
Hillchanger, while getting you a “bigger” profit when compared to Ratket, has lesser “variance”, but also “stricter” with the goods to sell.
Accepting that a grind around those goods might be complex, i wonder how complex might be getting the “prerequisites” (let’s remember that what you sell at Hillcharger you pretty much can obtain through the storylets of Old Resurrection’s associates, and they were recently boosted a lil’).

In two cases, the items needed for Hillchanger can be obtained more efficiently elsewhere than in Old Resurrection’s outposts.

My short summary of Hillchanger trades:

  1. Queeneater’s: Mortifications (from Burgundy deck or Barristering at Evenlode) and Hagyotoponyms (from Law Forging) are easy: worth doing every week
  2. Sous: Night Whispers (e.g. from Stacks) can also be sourced efficiently. Threnodies and Screams are card limited (e.g. from Urchin Favours, with bonus Screams if you have Saddleworm) but efficient. I also seem to be overflowing in Implications even if I never grind them… Worth doing every week.
  3. Burgundy: in this case, the best source is the Outpost, i.e. the Gall-Eyed Weaver, especially if you get Contraptions from Agents. It’s worth doing as much as possible, though it’s card limited and competing with Rat Market Soft Demand.
  4. Zenith: this is the odd one out. There’s no efficient way to grind 10 Hillmovers (Parabolan Hunting is just too slow); this trade only becomes profitable if you prioritize Hillmovers (Velvet Dark card) and Memories of Moonlight (Waning card) in the High Sancta, and trade Memories of Moonlight for Hillmovers in the Zenith Outpost. You might also need to use the Outpost to procure some of the other items. Even then, you’re not guaranteed to have enough items to trade when Hillchanger comes back to Zenith, so this can often be skipped.

Yeah it was the hillmovers specifically that seemed the most problematic to me—the High Sancta is a good enough grind that i’m happy to do it once a week regardless, but it’s capped at once weekly and all the other options seem to have terrible rates of return. So I guess I’ll just accept skipping that one whenever luck doesn’t favor me getting enough hillmovers before the next cash in for them

I realized that there’s another half-decent source of Hillmovers: the Khaganian Intrigue Opportunity cycle 2,4,3,9,6 (Zailor->Blueprints->Codebook->Telegraph->Device) gives one Hillmover. The cycle is 60 actions long, but at least most of the other payouts are usable either at the Rat Market or at Hillchanger. You can only run the cycle efficiently once per week because it’s limited by Emetic Revelations, so it can’t be your primary source of Hillmovers, but it might be useful to complement the High Sancta.

You can also pick up a few if you have any unclaimed Valourous Deeds from the spider fleet.

High Sancta can also yield Emetic Revelations. It’s not enough to fuel Khaganian Intrigue though.

If you’re purely angling for hillmovers, the cycle can be reduced to 2, 8, 6 though the wiki reports this as a relatively less profitable grind as far as the khanate goes. Haven’t done the math yet myself as to if the increased profitability of hillmovers from selling them at the tower is enough to overcome that deficit but it does have the benefit of being relatively easy to remember from week to week
