Weekly Fallen London Questions, 12/07/2021

Here’s this week’s thread for quick questions!

Hi, Time the healer has sometimes been a few hours late, but it is the first time it’s been 4 days late for me.
Is some ingame mechanic hindering it (like, some end-of-railway/discordant stuff content)? Or is it a bug I should report?

Nothing game-wide. I got mine on Friday at the normal time.

TTH does stop coming if you don’t log in for like a year or something (or if you don’t use your earnest payment for that time?) so if you’ve gone a very long time without using your profession rewards then I suppose that could happen?

Other than that, probably an issue to report.

Anyone aware of a way to acquire five hundred peppercaps without desiring to fall off a cliff while completing the process? :)

Your best option is probably the one that was recently added to Helicon House, in the entrance hall at the end of the party. There’s no quick and simple way to acquire that many, because it’s worth 250 echoes. Although I’m a little surprised there’s no good options to convert other items into mushrooms.

For maximum effect, stuff yourself on mushrooms in the supper room before grabbing the leftovers.

Thanks, I’ll try that and see how it goes. I’d gladly pay 1000 echoes to avoid Helicon House but… c’est la vie.

Draw the Disillusioned Fungiculturalist card in the hinterlands 24 times. It’s impossible for this to become repetitive because the card comes up so infrequently. It probably won’t take more than a few weeks. (I guess the answer depends on what makes you want to fall off a cliff)

I guess the answer to what makes me want to fall off a cliff is: Getting 500 peppercaps! ::

With that many peppercaps wouldn’t you just fly?

As high as a kite.

New POSI unlocking locations: am I missing any? I haven’t got to Mahogany Hall but I know how to. Since becoming a POST I have found the Bazaar Side streets, the Labyrinth of Tigers, Concord Square, Doubt St and Wilmot’s End. I have a basic lab. I’m not sure if the Cave of the Nadir is a quest or a location. I don’t have Parabola and am working on that slowly.
I see the Foreign Office on the map and I’m working on the artistic works at the Empress’ court.
Have I missed anything? The start of a railway?

Railway is started by a card. To get the card to appear you need to have a Persuasive of 175 and be a POSI of the second tier or higher (one of the four stat specialisations or Paramount Presence).

The Cave of the Nadir will be discovered when you completed the associated quest. Can’t remember, but I don’t think that is connected to POSI status. As I recall the quest is moved on by random card draws. Once the the quest is completed the cave will be a location you can visit from your base camp in the Forgotten Quarter. You will only be able to visit the place once a week, though, for reasons that will become clear once you’ve been there.

Mahogany Hall - you need to progress Making Your Name: Shadowy to 6, and then get Embroiled in the Wars of Illusion in the Flit. The first CP is a rare success when doing one of a number of things with spying on couriers.

Ah. Thank you. Well, railways are off the agenda for some time. Good to know. The cave sounds doable, once I find another dratted skull. With the new festival about to appear I think I’ll just potter around increasing stats and collecting materials. I am having such bad luck with nightmares right now: just when I need to increase them I keep &quotsucceeding&quot in dreams and not gaining or even losing them.

Is Notability higher than 7 ever required for a single challenge? Is there any reason to raise it higher if one is not pursuing Paramount Presence? (Mine is 10 right now.)

The option on the Unsigned Message card which grants a Surprise Package. You need Notability 9 to guarantee success.

I actually have a serious question (for once). Is there a “good” grind from Prisoner’s Honey? The best that I’m aware of is Unfinished business in Veilgarden, Do The Decent Thing. Which caps at 50 units. I’m looking to acquire thousands, which takes a LONG time at 50 an action. I know that single action grinds for a lot of other same level items pay off much better. Whispered Hints average 200+/action at Jericho Locks, Moonpearls for 100+/action in unfinished business on Watchmaker’s Hill, etc. Is there a similar level grind for Prisoner’s Honey that I’ve missed?

Hiring the Freeloading Artist into your lab and sending him out for honey returns 125 per action with a Persuasive check.

Huh, hadn’t heard of him. Hard to find the beginning of how to get him in the wiki but I think I managed to find out how to start his storylet. Thank you.

Would be useful to have some simple, non-detailed information there on “How do I …” stuff like this. The detailed info on specific cards and actions is nice but sometimes one needs a simple way to find out where to start in order to get to those actions. There are some great guides for huge projects like The Hellbound Railroad but the “middle” stuff can be a pain in the posterior to find how to get started.

My “how do I?” is simple to state. How does one get Oneiric Pearls? Do the Zee dreams have anything to do with it?
