Weekly Fallen London Questions, 08/03/2021

Hello Fallen Londoners! Here’s this week’s thread for quick questions! Also, the Mask of the Rose Kickstarter is in its final two days, and is tantalisingly close to its next stretch goal. Are you excited? I’m excited!

Hey,

I have a question about the non-parabola scrip grind in Helicon house (https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Hinterland_Scrip-Making):
Is it worth using the Flexible Rubbery Cat or the Rubbery Hound for the Grind? I have the Cat and access to Flute Street (but no Hound right now).

The Cat should be worth using. I don’t have a Hound, but I believe it gives Investigating, not Casing (and so isn’t applicable here).

Also, that page is a bit outdated - Casing gain from keeping an eye on the guests was nerfed recently, and it’s better to take Solacefruit than Biscuits now.

(I’ll probably update it some time today)

Yeah, just checked again, the description clearly says that the hound offers Investigating.

As far as I can see, you have already updated the page. :) Seems like the cat is eating up the chasing advantage, at least in terms of earning scrips.

Yeah - the cat gets much better if you’re spending Casing on Larcenies, though (I believe that’s what prompted the recent nerfs? Not certain, though).

Just a followup to the discussion from last week’s thread. I noticed another line in my TtH message this week: “Your ‘Masquing’ Quality has gone!”

I recall hearing that Masquing would eventually be transformed into making waves. I think it’s likely that, if MW seems to have not dropped as much as it should have, it’s because the Masquing conversion was included in the final total rather than because of a change to the formula. (My own MW dropped from 15 to 9, rather than 8 or 7. I don’t know how much leftover Masquing I had, but I don’t think it was much.)

What all qualities effect the the outcome text for the brawl option “Present yourself as something out of their nightmares”.

I know weeping scars, a spider infested eyeball, and a clay arm all add flavor text.

I don’t have a full list, I’m sorry, but I do know of one that went unlisted. Free-roving teeth, from BAL. Echo is here. Fallen London

The Wiki page for that action includes several of the textual variations. The table is pre-collapsed, click to expand. Note that some items appear to only affect the Rare Success, not the regular success.

https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Present_yourself_as_something_out_of_their_nightmares

There’s no guarantee that list is complete, it depends on which items are actually attained by people who happen to edit the Wiki.

Without getting too specific, there are options related to rewards from all four Ambitions.

I haven’t seen any for how I ended nemesis. I’ll have to look at the entry again. When I last looked there wasn’t a table yet.

Oh, that’s interesting! With the text entries, you really don’t seem very human anymore.

Hope this is the right place for my question. I’ve been away for a long time, and now trying to reset my password fails to result in an email. (Yes, i checked the spam folder too.) I thought my character may account may have been scrapped, but attempting to register anew is answered by “this email already in use”. Halp.

How do you convert Fires’ Lackey into a lackey of your own?

When you invite someone for coffee, of course, you can’t attend if you’ve left London as you acquaintance receives the invitation. Is that location check active for missives and other activities that don’t require direct contact by flavor, or once I’ve posted them I can gallivant around with no fear of inconvenience for my pen pals?

The new letters can be sent when the recipient is away, and read when the sender is absent. The blog post specifically said they wanted to avoid that common annoyance whenever possible

Wonderful, thank you!

Sadly enough, No. At least to my knowledge.

I guess you could just not participate in any of their abhorrent behaviour.

Dangerous and Shadowy missives require lower stats (20 instead of 50) to be received, but they also seem to give way lower bonuses (at least to less experienced characters) despite what the wiki says… and the cost for writing them being the same. Is this deliberate? Were the wiki CP tables copy-pasted without verification, or am I missing something?

(also, interesting that you can send loads of missives for an actual profit as long as you send them “for the secrets”)
