Weekly Fallen London Questions, 03/05/2021

Here’s this week’s thread for quick Fallen London questions.

[Hi there, currently hunting down Warblers to build up my Glasswork stat and my Lab Equipment. I just began my first hunt, and the wiki page for confronting my quarry (&quotContinue towards [Quarry Home]&quot) says I require Partly Pursued… which I don’t know how to get? I’m just building Scouting at the moment by Applying my knowledge.]
EDIT: I think i got it. How valuable is the hand space given by Lodgings? Right now I got the Flophouse and the 3-card mansion for their Favour options and the latter’s salon/orphanage goodness, and I’m at a loss as to why one should pursue the high-tier lodgings beside bragging rights. I don’t remember the MW options as being that good.

It’s quite useful in some locations like the Nadir and probably still polythreme, when you either can’t discard cards, or the deck size is so small that it actually matters. For other cases, it might be worth getting a remote lodging so you don’t get any city vices cards. Unless you do some specific exceptional stories, that’ll have to wait 'til Christmas, though.

The extra hand size is very helpful if there are particular cards which you want to keep in your hand ( for instance moods, Dream of Blood, Unsigned Message for easy profession switching, Presumptuous Little Opportunity).

Remote lodgings aren’t really worth the loss of hand size these days, since you can lock yourself out of most of the City Vices cards anyway.

The value of having more cards in your hand is that if a card is in your hand, you can’t draw it. Seriously, Polythreme would be unplayable with 3 cards, and really only becomes tolerable with five. You increase your chances of drawing a good card by already having the bad cards, and the fewer cards there are in the deck, the more pronounced the effect.

What is the most efficient way to get Cover Identity Backstory? I need 100 points :(

What is the most efficient way to grind Correspondence Plaques?
What is the most efficient way to get Cover Identity Backstory? I need 100 points
The hot springs in the Hurlers are a very efficient source of Final Breaths for Backstory (I wrote this up in detail on reddit, here)
What is the most efficient way to grind Correspondence Plaques?
As far as I know, the best option is writing newspapers (for best results, publish ordinary Salacious newspapers and use all the advanced options and the social action) for Journals of Infamy and cross-converting those. (if there’s a better way, I would very much like to know)

I’m thinking of finally getting onto overcapping some stats soonish - I’m just wondering, can you still lose your overcap like you could with the old system? I’m not Quite finished with the Cave of the Nadir options yet (that Rosers option!) and would hate to irreversibly lower an overcap that seems to be a long journey to get!

(some of the things which raise your caps can only be done once, so it would be a bit of a problem if you could lose it)

Is there really more than one type of Discordant Law? I’ve gotten it three times now, and each time it was listed in the “Myself” tab as “Discordant Law 3”. Thought it might just be bad luck on my part.

The Discordant Law you get is determined by the outcome of the most recent Hurling match. If you haven’t been Hurling, you’ll keep getting the same law.

So just keep sticking your finger down your throat. :rimshot:
