Her Enduring Majesty may have given us a do-over in the Neath, but, on the Surface, the years roll relentlessly on - and we don’t even have the Shapeling Arts to offer us the prospect of a new year, new me. Still, there is one continuity we can be thankful for, and that is questions!
I originally started playing the game December of 2016 through most of 2017 before quitting for some time, only checking in on my character every once in a while. I apparently missed quite a lot between quitting and coming back. While checking something out in the wiki I discovered that elections were ‘retired’. Why so? Was it replaced with a different event? What other important events have I missed? Is the last candidate to win permanently Mayor now?

Last year, it was replaced by a one-off event, Mr Chimes’s Grand Clearing Out, which… whew. Man, that was a thing.
This year there will be a new, permanent replacement for Elections. No idea what. No news yet.
So yeah, if you’ve been gone since 2017 you’ve missed a bit. Ambitions are done! And you can build a railroad! And Zailing was updated! Good luck!

As a newish player, since last year’s Whitsun, (1899 - the original) what do you mean by that?

I’m pretty sure he means they’re complete as in fully finished and fleshed out storylines. I remember back when I initially started playing, that the Ambition storylines didn’t have proper endings yet and weren’t completable. (At least I believe that was the case.)
Yeah, you could START the ambitions back when Fallen London was still Echo Bazaar, over 10 years ago. The endings were only finished last year. They were a long time coming.
Yeah, the Ambitions received periodic updates over the years before being completed.
Oh, and - the office of Lord Mayor was abolished, if memory serves, and the Viscountess had to go temporarily into hiding. So, no more elections, no more mayors.
Correct. Ambitions were incomplete storylines for many years. Light Fingers received its penultimate update in 2017. As far as I can tell the other three Ambitions had reached their almost-final chapters in 2014 and had been dangling on a cliffhanger since then.
It was a very big deal when the conclusions to all four Ambitions were finally added to the game in 2020. It’s emblematic of the new, revitalized pace of content additions the game has seen since then.
Ah, thanks. I’m not sure how close I am to completing mine. Many thousands of echoes and a lot of research to makeequipment, so a long way for the next step.
Do we know why, of the original/extant/high-profile Masters, only one is not, uh, represented? And more interestingly - why that particular Master?
There are 11 Masters (https://www.failbettergames.com/the-mysteries-answered/) and 10 Sacks-nomen that visit the player. By my reckoning, which I think matches the rough consensus, Apples/Hearts is missing a lachrymose representative, although explanations for alternative candidates would be just as interesting.
Is the master of Flesh (animal and vegetable) averse to building snowmen?
Is this entirely unknown? Is this known but only available via eg. a particular Investigating path?

We generally know very little about this particular Master and its split personality.
I’m a little disconnected from my character these days, and can barely grasp thhe various story threads the late game entails. When I heard there was a chance to start over again with a new char on the same account I thought it sounded like splendid idea, especfially if I can keep some legacy resources. But I’ve seen no news on the feature in some time - is it on the horizon?

What is His Amused Lordship’s background and standing in society? I know about his endeavours but I don’t think I’ve read anything about who he actually is.
I foolishly thought I could capture my Ambitious curatorial quarry before I could eliminate its other aspects, and had to leave the hunt at the Day of the Bargain. Do I need 5 more vakeskin boots to get back to it, even if I don’t have to sacrifice them again? The Day has remained in my Qualities.
If so, I may have made a catastrophically expensive mistake.
Hi. Does anyone had any problem with A Consequence of your Ambition? Yesterday TTH set it at "You can now collect a reward at your lodgings" but it seems the reward it’s not there.
I have not sent a bug report since I am not entirely sure I distractly collected it, so I am in need of feedback.

Actually, I finished mine just a couple of weeks ago, and like you, don’t think I’ve had the regular reward yet, though I did have the epilogue, which was card-based (Heart’s Desire),
