Very advanced player, returning after 3 years

I stopped playing 3 years ago. Here’s my public profile: Fallen London

I almost don’t remember anything at all, but I was subscribed for years, I have lots of stories finished, thousands of various resources, maxed out all statistics that were available at the time, gathered unique and limited items.

How do I come back?.. I don’t remember how to farm anymore, I’m drawing some cards that look like unique stories I don’t want to fuck up, I don’t know what to do or what should I really aim to accomplish. I vaguely remember regularly trying to farm in Arbor and going out by the train to farm something else? Also hating my spouse for some reason and wanting to marry a squid. This game is weird.

Any pointers from veterans? Some summary of what’s been going on? Is there something fundamental that changed? Are there some traps I should be looking out for? Help, I’m lost.

That’s actually incredibly helpful, thank you! (Though I’m still taking advice what to do first or what I shouldn’t be doing…)

Welcome back! As someone who’s been there all the time, I always find it really hard to tell returning players what they should do first… Maybe you should just read through the echoes on your profile, right from the beginning, and see if that brings back memories.

It’s kinda weird that you “almost don’t remember anything at all” after apparently having played the game for some years. Maybe you’ve been hit by a big cloud of irrigo? Maybe you’ve actually spent the past 3 years in the Nadir?

If it’s been three years, then probably you haven’t finished Evolution, and possibly haven’t started it. Do that. Big, long story, and also Irem.

Do poke into the Waswood before Thursday. Don’t know if they had this when you were around, but the Waswood now lets you see one-time game events that you missed, on a rotating schedule. Right now it’s the Coilheart Games, from last year’s Estival, which if you’re not familiar, is the series of one-off summer Festivals that started with the Grand Clearing-Out.

Well, I’m like this with a lot of media, over time I can forget almost anything. And to be honest, when I was playing FL I analyzed mechanical efficiency more than stories and lore, even though I obviously also loved them. Ingesting longer stories in this inconvenient, unbingeable, fragmented, time-gated, per-action format is extremely difficult for me. I can remember the general vibes, but not necessarily the specifics of what happened.

I think I was around for the Grand Clearing-Out, though I have no idea what it was exactly haha. I’ll try to check it out if I have the time, thank you!

The last few major storylines have been implemented as “Serial Stories,” published in chunks over the course of maybe two years. I know several players choose to wait for a whole storyline to be concluded before starting, for similar reasons to what you say.

The Railway and Evolution are the two Serial Stories that have been completed. Railway would have been partway done last time you played, while Evolution probably hadn’t started yet. Firmament is the one that’s currently in-progress, you may want to hold off on that.

There are guides on the wiki explaining how to farm efficiently nowadays. The question is what to farm for. Jump into the current Zee event, start available new stories, and see what piques your interest. Maybe prepare for Whitsun . Keep external notes until the information and goals are neatly packed and ordered in your head. Check your PLANS tab; maybe something will stir some memories

By the way… Can someone explain to me what was I going for here? I’m sure I had some good plan, but no idea what could it possibly be…

Possibly you were planning on selling your skeleton to the Colourful Phantasist when she next visits the Bone Market?

It does not look particularly valuable or special, just sell it.

My guess is trying to minimize exhaustion for a specific zoological fad.

Thanks for all the guesses, yeah it seems pretty random. Maybe it was weird plan for some specific event. It seems pretty good value for Scrip. I’ll just sell it

Welcome back to the game, complimentary kitten sent.

Thank you! That’ll be my second one ; )

(I’ll name them, hmm, maybe Shutter and Shatter.)

I was hoping “Patience and Fortitude” would be appropriate, but sadly those are guardian cats which didn’t exist until 1911 or so and didn’t get their names until almost 20 years later.

Regardless, welcome back.

Welcome back!

I think the advice I would give has already been given so I will just second the votes for paying attention to the waswood calendar to catch up on the events you missed and finishing the railroad before you try to tackle any of the newer content areas/grinds.

I’m long done with the Railroad! Only the City of Tracklayers is left.

I left sometime after Mr Chimes’ Grand Clearing-Out. So yeah, I still have to catch up with stuff like the museum event and other summer activities that replaced elections, it’s great to see that Waswood now allows that : )

As for grinds, I’m not sure about any new ones yet, but I’m very happy to see the Bone Market still stands strong. I always loved it.
