Better engines currently only affect your Veils stat, for combat purposes. They will affect speed and fuel consumption later, but they don’t know. PaleoG - the lower fuel consumption is probably from us fixing the fuel barrel bug.[li]
Genial Magician’s story… when finding an Outlandish Artefact at Venderbight, the Magician is interested but I need to have at least 1 in something like ‘The Genial Magician’s Story.’ Anyone know if this actually exists in-game yet? [If so, any hints as to how one might initiate it?] Yes, the Magician is in fact on board :-).
This makes me tremendously happy. And if the Cook officers affect Supply consumption, I will be bivalve-like in my joy.
I found out the hard way that any suspiciously convenient way of being the richest captain around is technically a bug and shouldn’t be told lightly. My post was promptly deleted (rightfully so), hence save yourself the effort and don’t be as dumb as I was.[li]
(To those wondering why I’m not using rhyme: it’s Sunless Sea, it wouldn’t be as appropriate. No time to be a poet with all the dangers of the Unterzee threatening my very life!)
How much will content change between play-throughs?
Sorry if this was extensively covered in the KS and I missed it, but will it end up that there is just an optimal way to go about things? Not that I’d use such a guide as I’d want to discover everything myself, but just wondering how much RNG will be in place?
Once the Beta is over, outside of the areas immediately around Fallen London, the locations of places on the map will randomize from game to game unless you leave a legacy chart. There is also some randomization as to the storylets at each port whenever you land.
I’ve found that the University will pay a handsome sum for unusual objects, so if you are fortunate enough to come across curios in your explorations early on, you can sell them and stock up for longer trips to far-away ports.
Also, unless you have a better ship than the starter one, don’t try to fight the lifeburgs, it will only end in tears…
I’m curious, when locations randomize, will it be by block (ie, the Corsair’s Forest or Demeaux’s Gate will be the same layout as now, but where on the map it is will be random) or will placement also be randomized within a block? Doesn’t really matter either way, just curious!
Just in case you’ve not seen in one of the other threads (I can’t remember which it is in), The ports currently in place will remain static, but further east and I believe south there will be randomization for each game[li]
I can not replicate any of these trade routes. I buy honey in london but no one wants to buy it! I do the route via port cecil etc, trying to get the skitlight(sp) stuff but can’t find any I have no idea where to look and I can’t fight anything, they just tencale my crew away from 60 foot! I need help! :(
They significantly changed trading in one of the recent updates. The Tomb Colonists no longer want honey but wine, if you get to Gaider’s Mourn you can sell it there. There are three options at Port Cecil as they are listed - first is chess (very rarely available); then a random event; then the Scintilack.
You will get the hang of combat eventually, I will say that it is well worth the investment in a Flensing weapon as soon as you can afford it - they cause more damage.
Thank you lady ciel!
It is tricky as a lot of the advice in these threads is from earlier builds and things are still changing as Failbetter rebalance and add more things to Sunless Sea.
I hope you have fun exploring and don’t die too often :)
I like how the information is slowly getting out of date.
It’s like everyones post is an overheard tavern story filled with half truths or just outright lies.
