Wait, what? Back up a little. Get close to the Dawn Machine? In the Liberation of Night destiny? Or where? Sorry, I’m not very experienced in the lore, but I think it might aid others if you added a few more details.
This is for Sunless Sea, not Fallen London.
In Sunless Sea, you can sail right up to the Dawn Machine.
It’s in the southwest corner of the map; I think the western and southern coastal tiles are still not randomized. You have to get just about as close as you can without actually bumping into the thing to trigger the message.
I found it while exploring; I hadn’t (and still haven’t) encountered any story events that even mention it, except the one 'way over in the Principles of Coral that has been there for a long time and doesn’t seem to be connected to a larger arc.
You can actually sail around The Dawn Machine into the little bay behind it. It’s funny. A little bit more difficult to get out once you are behind it, however.
