Fallen London is a strange game that offers your character PLENTY of opportunity to become a distinct, odd, and even borderline inhuman character.
Assuming they didn’t start off that way.
There’s something especially fun for me in having a character who has a touch of the unnatural about them. Sure, I COULD play a straight-up human, but its fun to imagine a little bit of extra spice to our avatars! And I know I’m not alone in this…
So! Come one, come all, ye oddities and walking curios, ya terrible things in human skin, and humans who’ve spent just a bit too long in the 'Neath. What "non-canon" (that is, not represented by in-game stats) strangeness is a part of YOUR character? Tell us about it! Brag away, ramble on your OC, this is the time and the place to hear what bizarre things are walking the streets of this good (eheh. AHAHAH) city!
I’ll get us started with my own character, a one Luka J. Novak:
They are, at a glance, a relatively normal human of undetermined and mysterious gender
And they did indeed start off that way!
Until their first death. Until they first reached their hands into the water of that River (you know the one) and something reached back.
Now an inhuman and otherworldly passenger watches from behind their eyes, learning all it can about "life", and "Humans", and "cities", and "Masters", and "Bazaars". Everything really. It’s more than willing to compel Luka towards nosing into business best left alone in it’s insatiable appetite for INFORMATION, which luckily Luka isn’t too put out about; after all, in return it occasionally can alter their anatomy to help them in fights and sneaking. Not to mention puppeting their body to get home on the rare occasion Luka comes down with a mild case of Death (they’re a Black Ribbon. It Happens.). The thing has attempted to communicate to Luka more directly, but that never seems to end well for either of them, frankly, and they’ve both learned to avoid it. It seems content to be a passive force in Luka’s life for now…
The Passenger’s primary visual signs are Luka’s eyes now appearing a solid mass of dark spirals and curves and folds (good thing for the presence of Devils meaning Smoked Eyewear isn’t so difficult to come by). Occasionally shapes seem to move on their bare skin, like a faded and lively tattoo. And of course, theres the occasional growing of sharp teeth instead of molars, and the sweat of palms becoming temporarily acidic, and eyes where there should really never be eyes, but those are rarities. They disappear soon enough.
All in all, Luka takes this guest in their body and mind (and soul?) rather well. It could be far worse, and it’s nice to have someone you know is on your side. Literally.
SO DELICIOUS AND DISTRESSING FRIENDS. WILL YOU SHOW YOURSELVES?
