The Rat Market

Thanks, fishandchips - and how Delicious you sound!

I don’t suppose the rat market does refunds, does it? I just bought 30 Skyglass Knives by mistake, because I thought I was on my character doing Nemesis.

This week:

Sell a Storm-Threnody for 200 Rat-Shillings
Sell a Parabola-Linen Scrap for 850 Rat-Shillings
Exchange a Fourth-City Echo for 125 Rat-Shillings
Sell a Corresponding Sounder for 4000 Rat-Shillings

Stainless Gloves = 4k Rat-Shillings
Rat’s Head Cane = 3.2k Rat-Shillings
Vakeskin Boots = 2.8k Rat-Shillings

I already have Rat’s Head Cane and Vakeskin Boots, the Rat Market offered them about a month ago.

So I want the Stainless Gloves. Getting 4k Rat-Shillings might be a bit tedious, I don’t have enough higher tier silk, my Fourth City Echoes were mostly spent last week. I could convert Shrieks (I have a lot) to Threnodies.

I’m done with the Hallowmas event, now back to grinding for Rat-shilling items.

Converting to Threnodies are limited by Urchin favours. If you run out, silk can be acquired by debating Sorrow-Spiders under the singing Mandrake.

Parabola-Linen Scrap is very interesting. Painting in Balmoral was already good EpA, now it’s top notch.
10 actions to paint and convert in Rat Market. Price for painting depends on how we value Moonlit. We could get 6 Moonlit for the opportunity cost of 1 action in Woods. For painting we need 12 Moonlit = +2 actions.
(122.5 - 60)e / 12a = 5.2 EpA
With travel costs (+2 actions, +5e) 4.82 EpA

Painting with Luminosity requires 2 x Memory of a Much Lesser Self and 10 Memory of Light (aside from the Moonlight required), and you need to do that four times to Present your Painting for the reward with Parabolan Linen Scraps. Which is way more than the 10 actions you said. If I’m completely wrong, please, tell me how this could be profitable.

In (122.5 - 60)e / 12a = 5.2 EpA
-60 = 6 * (2 x Memory of a Much Lesser Self + 10 Memory of Light)
This is to be expected in the secret Rat-Season of Wink-and-Wane. Something stirs in the above; the glass is restless too. Give them all a wink and go your way. Pray they go theirs.
We’re due for a 312.5 item, so Waswood Almanac maybe? Or a Legenda Cosmogone?

“Give them all a wink”… Intriguer’s Compendium, maybe? I assume the glass is a reference to Parabola Linen and the stirring above is from Storm-Threnodies

312.5 item = 10k Rat shillings? Time to grind.

Usually it’s close to nominal value, 3125 shillings.

Hasn’t it been 4000 every time?
Hasn’t it been 4000 every time?
So far! Although it’s such a modest mark-up and 312.5 items are usually such a commitment to grind that I can’t imagine it getting nerfed. If any individual option were too profitable, I expect the original source would have to be fixed rather than the Rat Market turn-in.

This week:

Redeemable items:
Storm Threnody (200)
Parabola-Linen Scrap (850)
Fourth-City Echo (125)
Scrap of Ivory Organza (4000)

Forgotten (Spidersilk) Slippers (3000)
Ratwork Pocket Piece (3200)
Smock of Four Thousand Three Hundred and Eight Pockets (2800)

I already have those items from previous weekends, so maybe go for Venge-Rat Waders (10000) since autumn is ending soon.

Hmm… raise casing in parabola and do a bunch of larcenies. Not a bad grind, potentially?

You’ll need a solid supply of Backstory. That will account for more than half of the actions it takes to get the Organza. But yes, it works out rather well. In weeks where there’s a good Shilling->Scrip conversion, this is possibly top-shelf.

Yeah, gathering backstory material really is the worst. What’s the best way for that? Sunken embassy, or is there something faster?

The other place to look is the Khanate. Three of the ten Recruitment options grant Mortifications. Whether this is better or not depends on what you do with the other Airs values.

Was thinking that we could buy t7 this weekend, not sell.

I like how Ratmarket makes different parts of endgame more profitable. Unprecedented variability.

I think these top tier rewards are for higher level players than I am. I should probably read this forum less :)
