The Neathy Tarot

According to the description of the gloves that Madame Shoshana’s mayoral campaign gave out, the Neathy version of a tarot deck contains 77 Major Arcana cards (compared with 22 in a &quotstandard&quot Surface deck) and an unknown number of Minor Arcana. If you have information about any of these cards, please post the name of the card and where you found it, so we can create a list of all known cards in the Neathy tarot.

Current list of cards (will be updated):

[ul][li]Page of Staves (signifies that you will embark on a journey. Source: Try the Tarot Cards)[/li][li]Three of Coins (a lucky card. Source: Try the Tarot Cards)[/li][/ul]Other information:

[ul][li]All three cards drawn by the Enigmatic Augur (Ace of Chalices, the Knave of Wands, the Chariot) are found in the Surface tarot. Since the Hanged Man is also in the Neathy tarot, it is possible that the Augur is actually using a Neathy deck as well, or he may be using a Surface deck.

Staves, coins, wands, chalices are all used in surface deck minor arcana. However, usually not both on staves/wands. It’s one or the other. So either they are using the same deck & different words for the same suite, or they are using different decks.

Otherwise the minor is: Wands (clubs, staffs, or staves), Cups (chalices, goblets, or hearts), Swords (blades, or spades), and Coins (pentacles, rings, or diamonds).

If that helps tell the two (?) decks apart.

That’s interesting, I did not realize that different words could be used for the various suits among real-world tarot decks. The only deck I own is a Book of Thoth, which uses wands/swords/discs/cups. The alternate wording you mentioned suggests that the Neathy deck may use the same suits as on the Surface, with the only difference being the addition of new Major Arcana cards.

I own around… that’s not important & it makes me sound crazy… so! The three &quotstandards&quot today are the Rider Waite, the Thoth, & the Marseilles decks. The Marseilles deck is what a lot were derived from & the three of them set a standard for the suites. Marseilles was Batons, Cups, Coins, Swords. RW was Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles. Thoth was Disks, Swords, Cups, Wands. So, really, everyone went hard on swords & cups. But coins & wands they had differences on.
So if we go by WHEN London fell & WHEN the decks were created, it negates the RW & Thoth decks. RW is 1909 & Thoth is 1944. So disks & pentacles is not really a thing. But weirdly, WANDS shouldn’t be either. RW is the first to use both pentacles & wands as the Hermetic Dawn wanted a more occult sounding deck. So, trying to use the wording to figure it out also doesn’t help. Since the Neath deck should be batons/staves & coins (rings maybe).

So, of the decks I have out, only the Visconti should count, but the wands from the Augur ruins that methodology of ruling out what deck is being used by whom. The only reason I actually mentioned any of this anyway is incase more cards come up.

Old decks had Papess, not High Priestess. Pope, not Hierophant. The Lovers card had THREE people on it (in many decks, not all but most) & was switched to two by RW to correspond to the zodiac (also, later, moral values), which is also why the cards &quotStrength&quot & &quotJustice&quot were switch in places (Strength to VII & Justice to XI); zodiac sign corresponding. Thoth switched them back. So, it’ll be interesting if any other info about the Neath deck pops up.
