The 'good evening' thread: introduce yourself here
I am completely new to this type of city and still a little at a loss… I came here to try and find some friends for the social actions in my lodgings, but the topics in the ‘Enlist other players’ section are all kinda weird, I don’t see any add players threads, only some strange talk?
Welcome, BobMaster! Disorientation is a common experience for new arrivals in Fallen London. It’s probably the strange constellations or the twisted streets or something. And social actions are being reformed right now, which must make the talk in the Mandrake even more confusing.

Maybe if you could tell us which actions you’re interested in? There are lots of helpful people here, so you’ll probably get invited to a bunch of them.

So I need to find friends for specific storylets?
Can’t I just build up a friend list and use them for the storylets in my lodgings ?
And I can’t add my facebook account, it keeps redirecting me to some error popup.

I am looking for Confident smiles, and I have a nightmare and scandal.
Then I believe I need to meet someone for coffee, help lay rumours to rest and find someone who doesn’t mind being duped.
Not sure what sending a calling card exactly does.
So I need to find friends for specific storylets?
Can’t I just build up a friend list and use them for the storylets in my lodgings ?
I suspect you’ll have received a flurry of calling cards by now, but to answer the question - yes, you do indeed build up a friend list and pick from that list wherever you want to.

Before you can add someone to the list, you need to know their name. My character’s name is &quotMr Puckeridge&quot for example (or I’ve got another lower-level one called &quotInspector Hound&quot, though he doesn’t come out all that often).

To use that knowledge: try to invite someone for coffee, and click on the link which says &quotManage your contacts list&quot. Then over on the right, in the box which says &quotEnter username&quot, type (for example) &quotMr Puckeridge&quot and click &quotAdd contact&quot. This doesn’t actually do anything - I don’t have to accept, and won’t even know that you’ve added me - but I’ll now appear on the list of people you can invite, not just for coffee but for all the other things as well.

And if you accept an invitation from someone else, they’ll be added to your contact list automatically.

All the best
Richard

Not that many calling cards yet, people might be asleep.
The fog is starting to clear, I’m sure all will be clear soon.

Inviting you now, thank you for the explanation.
Also made a post in the appropriate topic.

[EDIT]: I figured out the invite in opportunity cards is for new players.

Evening Ladies, gentlemen, and otherwise.

In game I also go by Vizekkin.
I have only arrived here about a week ago and would be happy for any invitations.

Hello. I am someone or other. There are things I enjoy. Fallen London’s one of them.[li]

A marvelous greetings and salutations, fellow Residents of Fallen London and other Individuals of Note.

I am a long term member of the city though something of a recluse. Having become a person of some importance months ago I feel it wise to reach out to the community at large and to better understand the full tastes of what the city has to offer.

Namely, I have no friends who wish to play and would love to make some new friends. Clear ones of Good Taste.

Best regards,
Ispizua

At some point in some time I went into a Honey parlor. When I awoke from the dream I found rats had taken over my lodgings and all the , ahem, ladies and gentlemen and in betweens I had known are long gone. Cue tiny violins.

Good evening Ladies and Gentelmen and other individuals, I have been a denizen of the Neath for a while now but never descended into the deeps of these boards and now i’m making up for that.[li]

Hello, hello. I fidgeted about with the FL for a bit but deleted in a pique of, not sure what sort of pique only that it was fueled by a Riesling. Anyhow, I never advenced much but now I am back ad joining the forums as that is a way to do things when a game is descibed as social.

Good Evening,

I am currently acting as one Torva Nex, a lethal and sagacious lady (and never mind that I had to research the word sagacious, thank you). She is an interesting creature living an interesting life in an interesting world, unlike the lady behind the screen. Pay her no mind. She is quite boring by comparison.

I have been playing Torva for a bit more than a month, and am interested in learning more about the social aspects of Fallen London. Inquiries are welcome.

Good day!

I’m a relatively new player (joined almost a month ago), but I’ve already fallen in love with Fallen London. It’s the perfect game for me - the storytelling and opportunities are simply marvelous! My character is a predominantly shadowy lady who’s also very watchful and persuasive and quite dangerous to boot. She’s closest to the Bohemians as she’s somewhat of a hedonist, but she’s also fascinated by the Devils (especially the Quiet Deviless), interested in the Great Game (currently working for the Cheesemonger) and trying to figure out more about the Bazaar and the Masters. She’s still new to the wonders of Fallen London, though, so she won’t mind having someone to show her around a bit and point her in the direction of things she might have missed. The person behind her is a teacher and a freelance translator of books who’s interested in a big number of things among which are books, music, psychology, mythology, languages (love all the delicious words one can stumble upon in Fallen London!), photography and postcrossing. Both player and FL character are lesbian and would prefer to communicate with individuals who do not find that offensive or wrong if at all possible. Before I forget - Happy New Year, folks!

Hi, I’ve been playing Fallen London for a few weeks now after getting stuck in Black Crown. Would be happy to engage in various social actions but please don’t dupe me (yet).

She has been dancing all evening for the New Year revellers, collecting coins and promises as she worked.[li]

Now she has retired for some brief respite, but do not believe she has stopped working. If you don’t pay attention, she may steal your purse. If you do pay attention, she may steal your heart.

Do not be shy, though. None of this is malice, just survival. And she is always good to her friends.

I have made a terrible oversight. Though I have been playing for many years (since, um, 2010? Possibly? maybe even 2009? I forget.) I don’t believe I’ve ever properly introduced myself! In the world outside of the 'Neath (I hesitate to call it the &quotreal world&quot as I often find stories full of just as much reality, just of a different kind) I am a 31 year old woman from New Zealand.
I love stories of all kinds, and words, and learning new things, and, ironically, suffer from mental maladies that make this extremely difficult for me. shrugs Such is life. &quotTry again, Fail again, Fail better&quot as they say :p (Actually, it was the company name that first endeared me to Fallen London, or Echo Bazaar as it was when I started, and enticed me, along with a glowing JayIsGames review, to check it out.)

In the Neath, Inky Petrel is a curious (in both senses of the word) person of indistinct gender, they share my own love of KNOWING, and so are often compelled to follow a course that is…not safe, but that will lead them to greater understanding (and more delicious story!). They can be charming, They can be very very dangerous. As they have been embraced by, and have embraced, the Neath they have become…less kind. But they are not, at heart, cruel. Their Ambition is to discover the dark secrets that surround the murder of their brother. They are getting closer, but a trip across the Zee has left them with more questions than when they started.

Hi all! I’m mired, I’ve been playing for about a year and a half. After being cool on the game for a bit, I’m back at it, exploring the mysteries of the Neath.

It appears I have not yet presented myself on this thread.

I’m Aximillio and I’m a student living in Norway. I also happen to be an editor of the wiki. I’ve been playing for quite a while, and I’m not per se new at the forums, but I’m delighted to welcome your presence in silence nevertheless. That is, not at the moment, as I’m not even in the city.

Ruen–new to the forums but several years into the game. I welcome social actions–I just took a hit to my notability and pocketbook acquiring a Sanctum. And if there is darkness in my future, is there not darkness in all of our futures…?

I should introduce myself! I played the heck out of Echo Bazaar back when it was still called that, but ran up against content barriers and forgot about it. Recently, with the holiday events I decided to take a look back in, and discovered that there were all sorts of exciting mysteries being discussed on these forums.

I’m a game narrative designer by trade, so seeing how everything fits together and witnessing the community’s dedication is fascinating and inspiring. Fallen London has quite probably the finest prose of any digital game going today, and it’s remarkably artful how mysteries are drawn out from small inconsequential hints to mind-blowing revelations about the world. I would be honored to join in the rampant speculation.

I’ve been playing for years, but i never got into the social part of the game. Now i want in!!! So feel free to contact me for interviews, plant-duels, actual duels, and send those cat boxes this way!
