Ah, but there’s a difference between being attacked by lots of different people and being attacked all the time by one person, I think.
I do kind of like the idea of a list of people who don’t play fair, but then again… nowhere in the rules of the game does it say that we have to play fair, does it? It would be better, I think, if we had the option of ‘blocking’ people we didn’t want to play with - so I could put a user on my list, and s/he couldn’t attack me, and I couldn’t attack them either.

Well, some people attack more often than others. They could list those. Also, the very existence of such a list would make high-profile players less attractive as targets AND make people play in a fairer way in fear of a coordinated counter-attack.
No rules for fair play means you get to make your own rules. As long as you have the power to enforce them. I like your idea too, but we don’t have such a block option, so… edited by Fhoenix on 4/16/2013 edited by Fhoenix on 4/16/2013
i can’t say i’m often attacked by the same people: usually it’s a grab bag of some names i recognise and some i’ve never heard of. i don’t think a list would really accomplish much besides being “a list of people who may have stabbed me at some point in time”
I don’t consider lots of attacks to be harassing. Unideal, yes, but it’s all fair.
Making a list seems like the kind of thing I am against, on the other hand.

As long as you don’t spam attack the same player ~5 times in a row, I see no issue with this. Also, if you fail the first attack, you know the winner has at least one more token, and as such can send another attack. The issue isn’t that you can spam, but that this can prevent people from participating in the game - I don’t think most people would make an alt purely for K & C.
Having either an anti-spam filter or a more defensive approach, could help solve this.
Listen, I’ve been #1 on the last three lists, and I have no problem with it. How else are we supposed to know who’s winning? It’s worth the extra attention to know, in my opinion.
The one serious complaint I do have, however, is that at this point there’s still nothing really significant to be gained from the whole affair. It was before my time, but in the first iteration, I think there was a unique lodging that people could get? So far the only items people can get from the game are extremely rare and are lost upon leaving the game. It’d be cool if anyone who makes that top 21 (or whatever number Alexis cares to choose) got some sort of unique reward that would persist after they left the game. Lodgings, or a spouse, or a home comfort, or something else that might have an effect on the game outside of Savage!/Elusive!/Baroque! stats.

No. My thinking was: Once you find a person who is weak to your type attack, there is little reason to ever change your target. Unless somebody makes you. But as a defender, switching your stance and counter-attacking takes more time than just attacking somebody else. Especially if you have a ton of attackers. A list could solve both of those problems, as an organized front would make for less attractive targets, and allow participants of said front to counter-attack players weak to their element.
But if Spacemarine9 and Dawson don’t like it, then scrap it.
I hope that Alexis or some other FL folk are getting a PhD thesis out of these experiments. I am not even slightly kidding; I think that there must be some glorious data available, and even the ability to tweak settings and test hypotheses. Absolutely glorious applied psychology.
Apologies if this is sort of a daft question, but as I didn’t get to experience K&C the first time around, I’m still trying to grasp the mechanics. I’m finding myself attacked a fair amount by random people (I have no friends ~sniff~) and haven’t gotten any cards yet that would allow me to provide some sort of payback. From reading the thread, this is what I understand so far…
Cards will come up that will allow you to work on strategy and technique
Cards will come up to allow you to find someone to attack? Or is it just a list of eligible people? I’m confused on this part
With the exception of the cottage in Watchmaker’s Hill, everything is done through the use of cards
Don’t lose all of your coins or you’re booted out of the game
There is an option to steal stuff
What am I missing?
Conveniently, I just got killed by Feducci, so I’m safe for a little bit while I try to figure out how the game is actually played

You’re right about 3-5.
As for 1 and 2, there are a number (5, I think) of Opportunity cards that permit you either to change your Form or to attack someone. The relevant cards have been mentioned in other Forum posts. (Both options appear on the same cards, but you can only choose to do one per card.) You need a Form in order to attack, and I think you’re not attackable until you have chosen a Form. Also, if you go down to 1 token, you cannot attack (this has happened to me more than once.)
In my experience, you can only attack people who are in the game and on your “friends” list. It is, however, possible for people to have “friended” you just to have more possible K&C opponents. You should “friend” them back so that you can attack them. As you’ve noticed, if you’re out of Fallen London you can’t attack or be attacked.
By the way, it is no handicap if you were not in on the first incarnation of K&C, as this version works quite differently than that one did.
Aha. I was wondering what happened to the Omens. Used to be so common, I was wondering why I hadn’t seen it. Thanks for the heads up.
As for Mr Ewan, I was also thinking that same thing. Funny day for rhyming. But yes, it must be very fascinating to see the data on how people handle the social actions. I guess I’m most interested to know how many people change their forms and how often.
On a slightly unrelated note, and I hope someone hasn’t already mentioned this but;
Does it seem a little slanted that attacks are geared toward higher level players, insofar as the majority of the cards needed are upper tier things? Is this good? bad?
you can easily /start/ playing at low stats: 30 in one is enough to pick a form. but all but two of the cards are unavailable to all except high level people, and the two which lowbies can use are rare as hell. it’s weird
ps: check out the gamekeeper’s cottage again if you haven’t recently
The hover text for the silver knife tokens reads “Occasionally, the Committee will issue these to all: when they do, you may take them from defeated foes”.
I wonder if this is a way of getting us to spread our attacks? Because presumably if everyone gets one silver token and it can be pinched, it will be best to attack as widely as possible to collect the requisite 7 (or 77, if you’re feeling crazy!).
