Letty, the mercy, for fate, will add a new option on a salon, as will the diplomat, i believe. (The diplomate’s hallowmas option is availible regardless of whether you have him or not, iirc.) Otherwise, the only reasons are RP or stats.
(Statwise, You should get the high-masqueing non-fate companions, because they compete with many second-best in stat options that cost far more to aquire. +7 to a stat is nothing to expell germs in the general direction of, after all.)
Just to be clear, does the The Lady in Lilac card appear everywhere?
I seem to recall reading some text that says she avoids some places like Ladybones Road, but I can’t be sure.
Some areas have cards associated with them that you only draw at that location. If you want fewer cards competing with Lilac and the Encounter at the Feast, Labyrinth of Tigers is the best place to flip cards, to reduce deck clutter, since it does not have unique cards… unless you are also after a region’s unique cards.
Logically, she would avoid Ladybone Road, because of Clathermont, but I don’t know for sure.
I also suggest keeping the Feast of the Rose card in your hand if you do not need it for Masquing, to keep it out of the draw pool. If you are sub-20 Masquing, use it all you need. edited by th8827 on 2/17/2016
I haven’t gotten a single Lilac card, and I would really like it because I’d like to get a tattoo! I am sitting on an Encounter… I would love to get the Monster Hunting Academic for RP purposes, but 80 Masquing seems impossible! I’m at 21 Masquing and haven’t gotten to trade in any of my Glasses of Teeth yet… Am I correct in thinking that I won’t be able to get the Academic if I don’t have any Fate gifts? I don’t think I’ll be able to acquire any, since I have no Fate to exchange with someone… Should I just go ahead and start getting the other companions?
Yes. non-fate gifts will only take you to 31. quite frankly, if you’re not recieving a fate-locked gift, there’s really little point in exchanging any non-fate gift except liar’s tongues.

Whup! Well, that was a good couple thousand cryptic clues wasted. Ah well – now I know for next year, and thank you for letting me know!
I hit 100 masqueing and got my Revolutionary Firebrand, Reforged. Does anyone want to exchange a 10 fate gift? I could send a box of potentials for a starveling stole, or something.
Update: Got the starveling stole. I don’t need any more masqueing, but I’m now free to give non-fate masqueing gifts to anyone who needs them, without need of reciprocation. edited by Lamea Lawless on 2/17/2016
Under the Myself tab, check under "Curiosities" for most items. These can be hard to find because a lot of items fall under "Curiosities". However, some come under "Companions", like the Pink Painted Cat.
As for the Fate-items, some are pieces of equipment - the Masks and the Starveling Stole are "hats", and the Rosary is a "weapon".

Lilac does appear in Ladybones Road with the same frequency as in other locations.
If you get any Fate it is actually possible to give yourself a Fate-locked gift. Sending any Fate gift to another player and having them decline will place it directly into your inventory! (Though this doesn’t work for non-Fate gifts or canceling the offer yourself.)
Apparently not:
For those who were wondering: if you pay fate to reset two tattoos, you can get another two right away (for 10*2 actions, that is).

Now I worry I didn’t make myself clear :) You don’t have to wait a year, both tattoos are available to remake right now. edited by Valiant on 2/17/2016
I saved my Feast of the Rose! card when I drew it because it had the Duchess’ Feast on it, and I wanted to wait until I got some more Masquing so that I could make the acquaintance of a Captivating Princess – only now that I’ve done so, the card’s options appear to have changed, since my Airs of London have changed. Does anyone know if there’s a way I can change them up without using the card and hoping to redraw it?
I’m looking for a last-minute person to exchange a pink painted cat with. I just want it for my set of Companions, not the masquing. I can only send one, so please let me know before you start bombarding me with gifts. edited by Toran on 2/17/2016
