raises hand I’m someone you know, I hope, and I was pretty well-delighted by the event and the glimpse it offered into the nature of the Bazaar. I shared the link to my journal with two people who’d missed it, and they were delighted and intrigued by it, too – one of them expressed an interest in getting back into the game after a long absence from it. I also reblogged some attempts on tumblr to gather up all the alternative bits of text for Basking in the Sunlight, for people who missed them.
And I figure that’s what you’re supposed to do, after an event like this one? Share what you can, piece together what happened, speculate on what it means? That’s the exciting part for me, the part that requires a community, as opposed to just playing and clicking alone.
Now this is very much Different Strokes for Different Folks, but that’s my take on it, and I just wanted to take the chance to voice it! :)

This is very well-put; last evening I was about to post a comment trying to express more or less this sentiment, but I couldn’t get it to sound right so I gave up.
I totally missed the whole thing. And yes, that’s somewhat disappointing, grumblegrumblegrumble I want a Mirror-Catch Box and a Gilded Crustacean and all that, but I’m actually really glad that Alexis did this. I’m glad for the people who did get to be there, who did get to see something wonderful and fleeting and marvelous, and I’m glad to have the chance to pore over what’s left and read texts in journals and wonder about those damn Boxes (“eleven very cunning Fallen Londoners”; I’ve been distracted ever since) along with the rest of the community.

Hmm. I think that the difference in sense of expectation here is that folks feel as though they are part of the game-creation, whereas they would not feel part of the troupe, orchestra, or {$CREATOR} in other media. That’s just a feeling, not a reality; it’s also a tribute to Alexis and FL.

Those many of you who liked it in practice or principle, or are enjoying piecing together stuff after the fact: I’m glad. Thank you for all your enthusiasm. And it’s fun to see the actor metaphor being hijacked and flown to Antarctica.

I can also see that it might have looked like a cataclysmic and essential event, and I can understand that people who’ve been playing the game for years would have been disappointed if it had been something that important: this ephemeral art business only goes so far, and I wouldn’t do that. Next time, I’ll think about how to allay those concerns, possibly with a tidy-up post after the fact.
… You don’t play for a day and the entire Neath goes crazy! Talk of Sunlight! Preposterous!
Idea: Why not give a reduced reward to people who missed the event? This way, people don’t feel like they’ve been cheated out of a reward, but people still get to experience unique content with better rewards than those who weren’t there got.
Something like: "You hear rumours of lacre and tattoos and sunlight…Sunlight in the Neath? How could that be?
You’ve gained 1 Primeval Hint"

It was a good moment. Very short texts, very short experience, but oddly enough… it was powerful… like, it gave me a strong feeling of “wow, just for one brief moment, there is light, there is happiness, there is something pure here…”. The feeling of a tiny, but important, touching, moment. Very strange. I liked it. :)

Just to be sure - we are free to discuss the content of this event? It’s not off-limits like Fate-locked content, given its exclusivity?
What a time to listen to the thunder.
The Fate-locked content is off-limits so that more people will buy it. For this one, I don’t think there is any reason to hide it.
Oh, everybody should go and read this quote (I don’t think it’s on the Wiki). Because, damn…
That’s quite helpful! Kudos to Flapdragon and thanks for sharing! I’m just going to haphazardly make new “Bask in the light” pages on the FL wikia to add all this interesting new text. I’m not sure how to work the FL wikidot, so someone else will have to do that.
Sir Frederick, you should probably make a new thread to discuss the content of the sunlight storylet since this one is a…tad…cluttered.
With that said, I can’t actually find anyone I know happy with the event, even ones who managed to experience it. I know some people who are quitting the game, some who have sunk into ambivalence… nobody actually happy with it. Even people who were happy at first are now disgruntled because of how disappointed everyone else is.
It was a nice experiment and all, something sudden and very temporary, but I’m not sure the experiment succeeded?
I admit that I was initially sad, angry and disappointed when I discovered that I missed the Sunlight. After a good night’s sleep and a good deal of thinking and soul-searching, I’ve come to understand that it was a beautiful work of art and none of my complaints really have a single leg to stand on between them. (Especially considering that my own past involves quite a few artistic statements that were considered ‘griefy’). So instead of complaining and ragequitting, I’ll say this:
Well played, Alexis. Well played.

Well…obviously! smirk (Hmpf, good one, Alexis.)
I don’t know how to work the printing presses at the rebel base where the Wikidot edition of the Wicked Books is produced. I’m only acquainted with the equipment which manufactures the Wikia version, though I am an ardent supporter of both editions. I trust no one here will spread this information to the Ministry of Public Decency.
Well, it was a gold storylet, which is supposed to signal to the players that it is Very Important (or Fate-locked content) and we should pay attention. The resulting furor and uproar from this event only goes to show that you’ve trained us well. :)
Now, the question is, will you use your powers for good, or for evil…?

Heh, I was really just trying to convey that I was surrounded by grumpy, disappointed people all day yesterday, you know? I had fun during the event, but I couldn’t really help but feel sorry for the people I was surrounded by.

Much sympathy. I can appreciate that; if I had missed The Event, I would have been disappointed and grumpy myself.
