Why am I having Jimmy Kimmel flashbacks right now? :P
You know, if AK did a YouTube series about the day-to-day life of making Fallen London, I would watch it religously. And a ragequit counter would be a hilariously awesome thing to have in it. :P[/quote]
Not sure “awesome” is the word for it. All I’ve been hearing since the thing is discontent and irritation, even from the people I know who aren’t going “Pack it up, no more EBZ for me”.
It’s quite frustrating to get on here and find that I missed such an interesting and insanely profitable storylet because it was only up for a couple of hours, which happened to be while I was at work (it couldn’t have been very long because I played on my lunch break and it wasn’t available then). I wish they would’ve made it available for longer–or, if it needed to be really ephemeral, made it like the snow, staying as long as it took you to get to it, but gone once you played it once. :(
Certainly not going to ragequit over it but I might, i don’t know, go off and recklessly spend all my Tales of the Mahogany Hall on a verse of Pop Goes the Weasel in a fit of pique.
I slept through it, too - and I didn’t even get a full night’s sleep! I’m not -so- annoyed, but I am surprised that the months of foreshadowing - all the oblique hints about sunlight from the Cheery Man and the Masters - and all the effort of writing and coding went into such a tiny event, that only eleven people out of a playerbase of thousands could fully experience.
It’s made me downright miserable. All that foreshadowing, all that promise of having a conclusion to the Lacre storyline, only to what, have an unannounced out-of-the-blue event lasting a short time? I have two Dark-Carapaced Crustaceans; I had the forethought to hope that they would end up being used for something. Now I find out that not only was I right, but I missed the chance because I didn’t camp the event 24/7? Bah humbug.
Gotta agree - am I now lumped with a grumpy crab for the rest of my Fallen London career 'cause I didn’t log in during the correct hour? Seriously, I love the game, but what’s with all the “Gotcha” content lately - completely unpredictable rewards and character progression?
I think several hundred of us simultaneously struck Google with the words “fallen london mirrorcatch box” (couldn’t be bothered to capitalize properly whilst rushing) when the Mirrorcatch Box option showed itself…and subsequently found absolutely no information on it. I even did an Images search. Thinking over what you said, I no longer feel the Mirrorcatch Box was intended for the supernaturally lucky eleven who own it, but rather for the tens of thousands of players who didn’t even know it existed. Knowing is half the battle and all that stuff!
I thought red honey and souls were the most infamous items to be smuggled, but now I must reconsider. I only got the sunlight tidbit from the Cheery Man once or twice on an alt account, and I didn’t remember it during the Feast. Maybe there’s a rare success from the Cheery Man opportunity card that gives you a Mirrorcatch Box or the means to begin the journey (a carousel storyline?) to obtaining one. After all, some options don’t even present themselves unless you possess the right Unlock criteria.
I’ve been trying to update the FL wikia for the past hour with the various sunlight basking results, but I can’t seem to load the page editor. If anyone wants to check or see the “…a wash of sunlight?” storylet text, please PM me. I think I have all the description and result text except the Box, but I would appreciate if someone looked it over. I only caught half of the text in person and gathered the rest from reading this thread.
I sympathize with those of you who missed it! There were some who were logged in but unable to take action due to a loading candle. I was one of them for a while… I think I logged in halfway through and ignored it for 30 minutes because I couldn’t read the Storylet options (0 actions) and incorrectly assumed that it would hang around for at least a few more hours, quite possibly into the next day. I caught the last 20 or so minutes, fortunately. Someone in the Salon’s Feast thread suggested making the sunlight storylet mechanically akin to the Christmas snow shoveling storylet, waiting for the player to log in and choose an option before disappearing. That would have been far more accessible and pleasing to the player base. Perhaps it was too difficult to code or maybe the FL team only wanted a small window for the storylet. Either way, I know I’d be buckets of grumpy if I had missed the event entirely. By the way, that is a super adorable Clay Man emoticon! And, yeah, whole buckets of grump!
Here, have a sip of this Black Wings Absinthe. I have cabinets of the bad stuff for occasions like this… proffers a glass
During the last hour of the Feast, a golden storylet appeared. It popped up at the top of the storylet column for each(?) Fallen London area. As the Feast ended, so did the storylet; it was available for 1-2 hours. It was entitled “…a wash of sunlight?” and it tossed us all into a frenzy.

I too was One of those who were online at the time of the event but unable to participate due to lack of actions.
Though I doubt I would have procured a Mirrorcatch Box as I seem to lack any crustaceans (truthfully I did not know such things even existed) it is still rather disappointing that I missed out entirely.
I am not exactly rage-quitting, I know I will be back eventually. Still, this event has soured any fond thoughts I had for the game.
This really dose seem like the developers went to an awful effort for nothing.

Does anyone even know how to get the box? Because I had two crabs, changed one into a gold crab, and I still have no idea what the box was even gettable by doing. Or what it did. Or anything.

Ahahaha, I’m in the middle of reading the anthology right now! That’s one of my favorite parts.
I’m serious about the Black Wings Absinthe, though. Whole medicinal cabinets filled with the squirming substance, I tells ya! If anyone wants to join me for some irresponsible social drinking with the excuse of a Feast after-party, just say the word here or through a PM. I’m willing to get smashed with you guys for the next few months till the pain of the sun goes away (to be replaced with a new liquid pain)! :)
I was merely fortunate enough to have some Darkdrop Coffee on hand. I’m quite curious to know how many people actually logged in and successfully participated in the high action options. The 10-action cost for basking in the sun really blindsided me despite previous experience with 10-action snow shoveling in FL during Christmas. I don’t want to hoard every cup of coffee just for the holiday events, but I suppose I’ll start doing that.
I don’t want to speak for everyone, but some people are probably not upset at the lack of material rewards; they are sorely disappointed with not even having the choice to participate. It’s not their fault. It’s not the FL team’s fault, either. Nothing was promised…but allotting a short time span to a major event which includes the sight of the sun, the greatest symbol of the Surface itself, is gonna sting a large number of people. hands out bandages and F.F. Gebrandt Tinctures of Vigour Dear Staff, please reconsider hosting future events with such short time frames. The two weeks of festivities is greatly appreciated, but I still can’t help thinking I would have given up 13 of those days to have an entire day to watch the sun.

Put it this way, making fun of it would take some of the sting out of it…at least in my opinion. :P
My biggest regret is that, as a really new player, most of the options were locked out for me–and this applies to the Feast itself as well. I really do need to grind my stats hard so that I can participate in all of these events that rely on PoSI/endgame content.

Or make the event happen at a different time in different time-zones. This was just wastly unfair to people in Asia.
If it’s too hard to implement, at least an announcement “The Feast will end at this and this time PST (or whatever, actually I have no idea what the timezone of the Bazar is)”. Or something. You know, just anything to indicate you need to be in the game at a certain time. edited by Fhoenix on 3/2/2013
