Starting officers have story now?

[li]I just started a new game, and noticed that my starting officer (The Plausible Surgeon), has a new topic, though I almost missed it due to the text being missing (I just created this account, where do I post bugs again?). He asked me to take him to the Chelonate, but because my captain is fresh, I can’t get there at the moment, and because I had already overwritten my old saves I couldn’t load them and check. I started some new games and confirmed that all the starting officers have such requests. While I’m not asking for spoilers, I would like to know if this is the start of a longer storyline or just a simple one time thing. Of course this might not be new content and I could have just missed it until now, in which case I apologize for the waste of time. On an somewhat unrelated note, I picked up the Remorseful Docter (Was it Remorseful? It was something emotionally negitive, I think.) in Saviour’s Rocks and noticed he had some dialog, was that there before? (Note: I just started a new game afer geting the Horizon Codex)

It was a one-time thing for the Longshanks Gunner – but it’s not out of the question that FBG might follow up with other stuff in future, I guess.

The Sly Navigator and the Shady Cook also have stories. With one of them, it was a quick one-shot story that made the officer leave but paid out in some pretty nice rewards. Worth doing if you can make it there, I think.

I know that my Longshanks Gunner (from the urchin background) just picked up and took off the first time I made port in Khan’s Shadow in the new update, but not before giving me a whole bunch of loot. Surprised the heck outta me, I certainly had no expectation of anything ever happening with that character.

Given that the starting characters are obviously not intended to be used for very long, I am all in favor of giving them something else useful to do. What would be great would be a way to upgrade their stats, and actually make them usable.

I also know I saw an option to use the Gall Eyed Engineer somewhere, but that was with my urchin character.

It’s a real shame that our starting officers just leave like that, I had grown quite fond of the Plausible Surgeon. Still, I can’t fault them for seeking better employ elsewhere.

I’m also a little disappointed if that’s all that happens, since while I understand that this is a game about being the captain of a ship, I was a touch fasinated with the idea of playing a character with a history in Fallen London, (as opposed to the browser game, where your initially from the surface) and thought that interacting with your starting officer would be the best way to show that, thinking that you must have some history for them to sign on with you.

It’s possible to…find a use for both her and the irrepressible cannoneer on the isle of cats. (and then you should prepare for the dumping of excess cargo)[li]

By &quotuse&quot, do you mean &quotpermanently losing&quot kind of &quotuse&quot? I might want to swing by there sometime just to try out Aestival sunlight, which I’ve been putting off since my map has Aestival located such that I would rarely have the occasion to pass by it before passing by the Isle.

‘Lady who tends to red honey requests their company’ kind of lose, yeah. (the snippet you get for conveying the gall-eyed engineer to kingeater’s castle was also fascinating - and would you really want to have her onboard when her eyes hatch :| )[li]

Oh my god literally used, that’s terrifying. I don’t think that lady likes me, so I might swing by to see if Isery has any non-appalling things to say, but thanks for the warning D:

I played through my main captain with Isery and had no idea about Zaira, and then I swung back one day— ‘donate’ a crewmember sdksd [li]
I think it’s possible to switch patrons once, though. (Once you fulfill her starting (appalling) requirements she tends to give a ton of supplies, so that’s the other thing I was warning for.

Yeah, that’s what I did this run actually – I wasn’t aware of all the details, and after I brought the goings-on to relevant parties’ attention, she wasn’t best pleased. Heckuvalotta compensation money I had to pay, too – didn’t want to find out what would happen to me otherwise.
