[SPOILERS] Heart's desire & light fingers

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask you about your opinions on some ambitions’ plot. I apologize in advance if some of this stuff has been discussed elsewhere, but I haven’t found a relevant thread. My main’s ambition is LF and my alt’s is HD. I’ll put it under spoiler tag, the spoilers are about some mid-late LF stuff and early HD

So, i just escaped the orphanage with my main, and found out that the &quotresidents&quot in the orphanage are shown the things they love most. In the music hall singer words &quotThey strap you down, they show you something, and whatever they show you becomes the love of your life &quot. And they showed Clarabelle &quot the Orphanage. They just wheeled her out and showed her the whole place. And now she lives inside her heart’s desire.&quot Of course this can’t be a coincidence. Are the residents in the orphanage &quotwinners&quot of the marvellous? Is the Topsy king an orphanage escapee? Was Clarabelle really an ex player?
What are your thoughts on this?

I doubt it. Desire is one of the themes of fallen london, so its not surprising to see intersections like that. (Also I believe the Topsy king lost, not won)

Still, I found the music hall singer words a bit too much wink-wink nudge-nudge to be a coincidence. After all, the orphanage storyline proves the masters have the power to make something (anything they wish?) your heart’s desire. That would put quite a twist on the whole HD ambition

By the way, the whole Topsy king angle in HD had me wondering: loser or winner, the Topsy king proves the game can be replayed. A little bit odd, since one would think the marvellous is a high-stake one-time game to play.

Is it ever mentioned who WON previous games? Or at least the last one?

Well, he is a bit… bonkers, although I don’t recall if that was because of the Marvelous or if it was something to do with his court issues.

It was explicitly the Marvelous. He waged, he lost. That there are assigned players implies the same people generally play, until they are unable to. Or until they win? Considering HD involves you bringing the players back together earlier than whenever the next game is to be certainly implies it being replayable, and almost like a larger scale weekly poker night kinda thing.

But I’m with Suinicide, it’s a common theme and a common phrase. While the orphanage would interact interestingly, they involve very different Masters whose goals don’t exactly line up, usually, probably.

Well, as you can probably tell, english isn’t my first language and I didn’t realize that was a common expression. Probably i’m reading too much into this. Still! The masters seem to have the power to alter people desires, and I can’t keep myself from thinking this could be tied to HD ambition.

Anyway, how do you know what master is behind the orphanage? Have I glanced some text too quickly? Or is it something I have yet to discover in the next steps of LF?
