Show Me the Data

I just got a new computer, re-downloaded Sunless Sea, and have set about making sure my new copy is up-to-date.

One problem though…

I want to keep my current saved game. I’ve got a Scion, a townhouse, I’ve managed to unlock one of the Legacy books, and my current game is going pretty well. Only, all of it is on my old machine… so where the heck is the data?

For context, my old computer is an ancient MacBook. My new one is a much newer MacBook.

If you’re on Steam you can find it easily by going into the game’s properties submenu from your list of games (I’d say you would right click to open this up, but Macs have that one button mouse usually).
Then select the Local Files tab at the top, and click the browse local files option. That should take you to it I would think.

Nope, not Steam. Gog.

This is really weird. I’ve found my Library folder. I’ve found the Caches folder. But, there is no unity.Failbetter Games.Sunless Sea folder, which is where I’m supposed to find the save file according to this thread.

Ah, screw it. I’m having a shitty day. I’m tired, I’m cold, my stomach hurts, and my lizard is dead. I’m just going to start a new game. Regaining my lost accomplishments will just be my first project.

Sorry about the lizard.

Make sure that you’ve found your UserName/Library folder to start - then, yes, go to Caches and the unity folder will indeed be there. All you need to do is copy the files from the ‘saves’ folder to the same location on the new machine, and all will be well.

Aw. poor lizard. Sorry dude.

I too am having a problem locating my saved games. There is nothing in my caches that says unity. when I search finder I cannot find unity anywhere on the system. Am I just missing something?

I also have the GOG version (on Windows), and saved games are located in:
<userName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Failbetter Games\Sunless Sea\saves.

Or something like that - this may vary between XP/Vista/7/8.

If you still can’t find them, I suggest using the file search tool and look for &quotSunless Sea&quot - it should find your install directory and also the directory mentioned above. Note the directory above the one above (i.e. one level above &quotsaves&quot) contains a bunch of other sub-directories, including the JSON files (including import versions).

On PC at least, Sunless Sea never had any files in any Unity folder, so not sure where that idea came from.
