Well there’s a very nice option in the nadir if you have the daughter. Also there’s a later option that lets you rechoose your question, even if you don’t have the quirks.
If you’re set on still going for Melancholy 12 despite that (especially when Heartless is easier to raise; mine already being high enougrh due to the Soul Trade raising it), you can elect to use Tears of the Bazaar like I did. Not the wisest method, but it worked. You have to Warm Your Tears, which is repeatable. However there’s a chance that warming will consume the Tears, which considering how expensive to obtain Tears are can be a massive waste. So if you’re going to do it I’d recommend getting Melancholy to 10 first through easier methods, then to 12 using the Tears.
So: Feast of the exceptional rose.
Does anyone know if the Fate locked items
A Starveling Stole
Terrifying Candles
A Well Song
Have interesting text, or any usefulness in seeking?
Also, I’ve seen references to being tattooed with the name (which I presume will open next week) - does anyone know the requirements for this? Certain levels of seeking? Other items? Certain levels of menaces?
Thanks!
Almost there! For reference, I had one Fecund Amber and one Fluke-Core before Seeking returned, and started grinding them again right when Cerise went live. So it’s taken eight months of Nadir visits every single week, plus bonus visits from access codes and such, to get five Fluke-Cores. (And I go up to Irrigo 9 every time.)
You won’t be able to go for the Noman option unless you already got one this past January and still have it. Otherwise you’ll have to wait for next Christmas. For the Daughter, note that her story has two possible endings - and only one actually gets you the Daughter.
Warming Tears does require having PtPT: ToL of course. So that only works if the user didn’t spend it all over the holidays.

Those items have no interesting text aside from the text for sending/receiving and trading them in, and no use whatsoever in SMEN.
The option to be tattooed with the Name required all seven candles, no tattoo (iirc), and nothing else, though this could change. I’m 77.7% certain that not only will that option give no tattoo, but also fail to say anything interesting whatsoever.

7 candles and 77 SMEN?
Well, I’m sitting on 0 candles (almost one, but still) & 28 SMEN, so that’s not going to happen. I don’t think I could physically reach that goal within the time (short, I suppose, excessive Fate buying).
I do kind of wish there were more flirt with lower levels of SMEN options, even if just terrible, or flavour ones. Or terrible flavour ones. Halloween required… 32? This requires being at the edge of North.
Ah well, it is niche content, I suppose.
It doesn’t require SMEN 77, just the candles. Gawain does require 70 to obtain though.
Also, with sufficiently good RNG you could in theory reach that goal. But the RNG is fickle even for normal content.
(There are some obscure options for lower levels of SMEN. There’s one while consulting with the interpreter of dreams, one in Mahogany Hall, a card as a spirifer, options in Heart’s Desire and Nemesis, probably others I’m forgetting…)

That 22.3% chance seems like it could be pretty lively, though - given the connection between one of those candles and the people who’d be doing the tattoo…
[li]
To rephrase without using thematic numbers for the percentages, there is a 99.5% chance that the option will be utterly useless and say nothing of note.
After all: “If I even could tattoo it on your skin, you would go up like - like a candle.”
But that scenario itself has a certain panache.
I’m expecting some amusing wordage, anyway, and isn’t that largely why we’re all here?
I’ve done all my preparations, and am ready to head North for the last time. Stuck around for the festival, not even thinking about the tattoo–just that I would say my goodbyes to London at its best.
Maybe I’m just feeling my nerves. Getting cold feet. But a reckoning postponed is no reckoning at all. My time draws near.

I would not be surprised if the tattoo ended up costing you candles, that you then have to grind back. I went into the lighthouse on Winking Isle thinking it would be worth it. It wasn’t, though the grind to get a second Destin’s was easier than I expected. I may have to go for the tattoo, assuming I’m not locked out by already having two tattoos. If there’s a fate cost to have them removed, well… we’ll see.
The option was in the same storylet as the other tattoo options0, so you’ll need at least one open tattoo. It costs 50 fate to remove them if you have two already, iirc.
I decided to try to get a short story, blew 5 darkroot coffees & a heap of resources (it’s 1am & quite hot in Australia, in sure I could have done it much more optimally), got to… 221 potential and… Failed.
So I guess I’ll just wait for other people to try getting a tattoo & continue my slow grind up.
I would be interested in finding out what happens if anyone does go that route (I imagine that unless people are waiting around for tattoos, there’s going to be a very limited number of people who met the requirements & haven’t gone North).

There are quite a few people who are still waiting to do it so I wouldn’t worry about that.
50 Fate. That’s… not cheap. I may wait to hear what others experience before I open my wallet and let the frost moths fly out.
I seem to be unexpectedly embarrassed in my Seeking. I have 29 Seeking and the first 3 candles, but in order to progress, I apparently need to do the Lower Mysteries, which are locked at Seeking 28 exactly. Perhaps I am missing something.

28 is just an easier way to get to 29. What you need to do now is get a calling card.
When does the option to get a tattoo normally open? Valentine’s Day?
13th?
I just remembered something. I looked it up a while ago, and there’s apparently some way to get rid of Free of The Name during the Feast…which would matter if it did anything.
Yes, the open a letter option on the card destroys free of the name possibly. Also ot does things now.
