I’ve nearly reached the end of what training professions will do for me (having invested effort that should have gone to Shadowy in my quest for Correspondence Stones), so I need to consider a profession.
And I’m not exactly speed-running this, but given that Seeking is my ultimate goal, what profession is going to be most useful for me to pursue? I’m thinking Journalist/Author for the sake of the MW Nights on the Town (St Destin’s is going to be tremendously not fun, I’m positive), but if there are other good suggestions, I’d love to hear them.
licentiate can save time on saving up for a lodgings at the bazaar- if you want to give up house and home, rather than fame and renown- but for an alt like yours, you probably wouldn’t mind the loss- it’d be beneficial, actually, for winking isle/
Nights on the town don’t stack in uses, so you might also find the following beneficial, but all the others are easier to grind. Strong-backed labor, (also reqs 3 favors docks, gives ~12 mw, returns 7.5 echoes wine.)[1 from rat catcher], favors in high places (req society connected 10, gives ~15 cp mw average) [4 for midnighter, 1 for campaigner, 2/5ths of a batch of 5’s 1-short stage for agent]
Raw echoes- since those are always useful for buying things you need, and as a seeker you’ll need to transfer a lot of it into inconvenient forms. Besides, as a seeker, once you’re dealing with winking isle… keeping up a salon will be a lot more troublesome than an orphanage, even with how expensive they get.
Assuming you aren’t going with the [22 week path], or getting help for the [18 week path], that is- both of those should get you to winking isle with no watchful checks, and should instead be spent on candle preparations. Don’t forget to use UP every week, either way- even if you aren’t taking those paths, 1 level SMEN is often priced in hundreds of echoes.

One wonders if the old Hallowmas paths to Destin’s will return…We will see.
I’m currently on Winking Isle thanks to a kind person from the IRC chat lending me their Calling Card (I’m currently at 21 SMEN). Should I just be spamming Circle until I reach 60000 for those seven points of SMEN? I crunched the odds from the wiki and it seems to offer the best average gain.
Raising F&M to 60000 gives you 7 points of SMEN. Reaching 10000 only gives you 1 point. So going to 60000 is more efficient (and you won’t need to repeat the preparation phase as often).
At SMEN 21, raise by 7 points to 28, then leave the isle and get a (mostly) free SMEN point in the Seeking Road storylet (only available when SMEN is exactly 28).
You can only use the option with 60000 F&M if you’re SMEN level is below 29 :-)

What I meant was that if your SMEN level is below 29 you must use the option with 60000 F&M, since:
The option with 10000 F&M requires SMEN 29 or more[/li][li]The option with 60000 F&M requires SMEN 21-70
