Seeking Mr Eaten's name

If you do not wish to Seek, I would highly advise removing your UP via refreshments at the Labyrinth.

Cerise requires “An Overgoat, or an Ubergoat, or a Classic Short Story, or 7 Fluke-Cores, or your daughter.”

turns to literary endeavours

you can also sacrifice a healthy noman (at least 77 points of Noman’s Friend), which I forgot to mention, but it’s the wrong season anyhow

Though did anyone actually tried the overgoat option to confirm it works?

I know that Spacemarine9 tried an ubergoat (got Cerise, SMEN +2), a classic story (got Cerise, SMEN +1), and a starveling cat (got only wounds).
you can also sacrifice a healthy noman (at least 77 points of Noman’s Friend), which I forgot to mention, but it’s the wrong season anyhow
there has to be a catch, though. Otherwise you could get Cerise for practically no cost during Christmas once the Wicket opens.

People looking to backread echoes of bjorntfh’s stunning progress, start here; looks like spacemarine’s echoes start here.

It seems from bjorntfh’s echoes that the game itself has not yet decided if it’s &quotFortigan&quot or &quotForthigan&quot.

fortigan has the Dual Nature

Not backing out yet. My characters are just getting their scars. Just trying to measure Alexis’ cruelty.

Destin’s has not.

Or is that “is-not”?

Here’s the hard hitting question. What level of Seeking do you think the Northbound Parliamentarian has?

Light a candle, light a taper, step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crush, uh-oh
This means no fear, cavalier, winking isle’s getting near
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies!
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives, and I decline

(I’m now at SMEN 23 with an old St. C’s candle and material for one taper, plus a bunch of proscribed materials, enigmas, and a classic short story. I think that means I’ve got everything I need to get to the Isle; I’ve just got to draw St. Cyriac’s. I’m unreasonably excited. I’m also going to have that song stuck in my head all day.)

Also, people not on Tumblr, definitely check out spacemarine9’s guide. plots

(Is the list of things you can’t have unquestionably complete? That is, are there things on there that you didn’t have but they showed up anyway? By which I mean: can I keep my Cider?)

Everything on that list is a requirement to get into the core of Winking Isle. There are no others (actually i forgot to put the other optional requirement set in; 0 Ambers (all except Warm) and Unearthly Fossils). If there’s any option which interacts with Cider at all, it only shows up if you have it, and it otherwise doesn’t prevent you from getting in.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure how, mechanically, the list presented itself, so I wanted to be clear on that.

It’s actually . . . not as bad as I thought, then, weirdly?

Personally, I’d mostly miss the high level Wine items, which will not be easy to restock.

I started figuring out how many echoes I’d gain from selling all the stuff I need to ditch for Winking Isle and how many levels that would get me via Appalling Secrets, and I might as well share my work:

Appalling Secrets and Winking Isle spreadsheet.
Personally, I’d mostly miss the high level Wine items, which will not be easy to restock.
I’m no NiteBrite, but I did sell all that for Cider, so it’s kind of old hat for me.

I’ll miss the Mountain-Sherds more.

Seekers will be familiar with this final, beautiful passage of Eliot, but I thought I’d post it anyway as it’s topical:

Every phrase and every sentence is an end and a beginning,
Every poem an epitaph. And any action
Is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea’s throat
Or to an illegible stone: and that is where we start.
We die with the dying:
See, they depart, and we go with them.
We are born with the dead:
See, they return, and bring us with them.
[…]
Quick now, here, now, always–
A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flames are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.

T.S. Eliot, &quotLittle Gidding&quot
