I need a thousand of them to upgrade my laboratory, I have only a little over 100 coins now.

You can always choose to design your own aleatory methods for this lab upgrade using two devilish probability distributors and 10 Mirthless Compendiums. I admit that there will be some grinding involved, but its better than trying to grind that many First City Coins unless there’s a specific reason you want that option.
