So, I just started my study on the Queenly Attar & I was just wondering is anyone knows what it is used for? I kind of didn’t think about it when I got it & just sort of figured it was old news & then started studying it & noticed it being called Arbor’s scarlet toxin.
It’s a toxin? But I can’t find anyone here posting about it.
(Granted I also just learned there is a flying shark? What? But that’s not what this topic is on)
Mechanics wise, the Queenly Attar offers a repeatable lab experiment that nets 1 Night-Whisper and increases your Kataleptic Toxicology by 1 cp, offering an alternative to consuming mushrooms or Parabolan Orange-Apples.
Lore wise, I can’t find much about attar specifically. Toxin typically refers to a poison/venom that is naturally produced by a plant or animal, which reveals something interesting about the potential properties of attar. Attar is also described as intoxicating, and some toxins can act as non-lethal intoxicants when taken in small enough doses (recreational snake bites are apparently a thing). This might be why you see Arbor differently when you have more attar as you’re effectively riding a dream high, and perception/belief seems to matter quite a bit in the Is-Not. It is also known that residents of Far Arbor like to use Attar as a spice in alcohol, kind of like a Parabolan mixer.
Attar is mentioned by name in the quality description of Kataleptic Toxicology, although in a way where it could be “toxin” or “alchemy.”
It was introduced with Arbor, and is tied to Arbor. It’s a currency, and a marker of standing or privilege, in addition to its actual physical properties… the mixed metaphors (and red color) remind me a little of the multifaceted roles of blood in vampire literature: sustenance, intoxicant, currency, tribute, power, etc.
So mostly it’s just a toxicology booster for those who didn’t already grind it to max by scoffing down orange-apples.
How do you make the experiment upon Queenly Attar available? I haven’t seen it in my lab yet, on either side of the mirror.
Visit Arbor via the usual card and the option is presented upon leaving.
Actually the Night-Whisper rewards make it a pretty cash grind. It depends a lot on specific gear, and what advantage you can take of Toxicological Focus, and how much it costs you to get 15 Parabolan research, but if you have KT 9+ you can hit 3.0 EPA easily.
Thanks!

Attar appears in my inventory under Goods, though it would also make sense as a currency.
I thought you had to have 7 attar with 77 foxfire? I was offered the option as soon as I went in with 7 attar. I might b e wrong, but the 7’s are important.

As for the requirements, they’re meagre enough to be negligible.
For me, the option was present earlier, but at the bottom of a list of 4 other options. If I hadn’t been scrolling down to look for it, I wouldn’t have seen it.
You have to be at Far Arbor (Palace), I believe. That’s where the queen is.
