Pronouncement from the Empress

When echoing something to your profile, the correct year is still displayed. I hope Failbetter keep it that way. After all, the profile page is basically something akin to our character’s private diary. Not even the [REDACTED] Empress can force us to use her [REDACTED] [REDACTED] customs there! ;)

“You take away my world, I’ll take away yours.”

I missed this:(

At least I don’t see anything about a pronouncement - is there anywhere special I should be looking?

Me too. Not been on over Christmas all that much. Did something happen?

Looking at the wiki - it looks like there was a very short time sensitive event where the Empress made a decree.

I must say that I am disappointed to have missed it by not being able to log into the game yesterday (internet problems). There was a huge build up in playing the Revels card and it does seem unfortunate that circumstances could lead anyone to miss the conclusion.

Well, thanks a bunch, FB. Would it have killed you to leave it up for more than one day or so?

If I understand any of this correctly, we spent a lot of actions getting ready for a big Revel, the Empress announced that we would not have next year this year, and we’ve been promised some kind of card or storylet in London which has not yet materialized. Whether this year will be a do-over of last year and whether we were bilked into supplying Revel preparations for a Revel we were not invited to seem be the subjects of some debate.

I can’t put my head around why it would be available for only one day, and specifically a day when people tend to have plans. And it isn’t liked the Running-Out-Of-Crabs incident where there was a fixed resource players interacted with. It’s a chunk of text with one unimportant choice in the middle. If one wanted verisimilitude why wasn’t it up for only a half hour? Why didn’t players have to idle in a pre-event storylet for an hour first?

If you missed it, I’ve got the text echoed with the notes [Announcement 1-7] and the final bit awards a free Home Comfort. There’s a variant of #3 about eating Rubbery Lumps that I don’t have handy, unfortunately. Looking at it now the whole thing’s a bafflingly big amount of text to write up to not then offer it to as many players as possible.

Oh, so we missed a home comfort too? This just keeps getting better.

Looks like the new card lets you trade 12.50 worth of glim for one cellar of wine and a bunch of assorted bottles. Not that phenomenal, but something to do if you have a bunch of glim or have trouble getting other wines. You also appear to be able to get society favors, but I haven’t checked it out because I was at 7/7 beforehand.

Thematically, it’s kind of fun because it’s like the party organizer is having a flash sale to offload all the excess wines from the cancelled celebration.

I just want to give some appreciation for FBG’s veiled commentary on real-world events…awesome as usual.

It’s worth noting that the discount wine option gives First Sporing, among all the rest.

If it makes you feel any better, it wasn’t a particularly interesting home comfort.

It also gives Broken Giant, which I like to get.

It’s my first +Persuasive Home Comfort. Every additional stat gain is welcome for those high-level challenges.

Thank you so much for the echoes! I’m sad I missed the storylets, it’s not common for Fallen London to have such time-sensitive things, even the Advent Calendar doors last for a few days… I don’t mind missing out on the rewards, though, just the story.

Once again, Her Enduring Majesty seems to have gone out of her way to upset as many people as possible. I’m sorry for those of you who missed out on this.

While I’ve gone unexpectedly and quite surprisingly fond of many of the Masters during all my Neathy escapades, the Royal Family have so far done shockingly little to mitigate my revolutionary opinion of them. Heck, I like and pity the one Master I’ve half killed better than the Empress and her pet Cannibal!

For the New Century! For His Amused Lordship! For the Cause!

Formerly late as in &quotwearing on&quot, presently late as in &quotpassed on&quot - quite delicious.

I can declare that it’s Christmas every day. It won’t stay the 25th December every day.[/quote]

If you are powerful enough, it will in fact stay December 25th.
This is the story. Is the Empress powerful enough to pull this off?
In the palace, certainly.
In the rest of the city, probaly to varying degrees.

In all cases, the time and date is an abstract, not an intrinsic property of the universe.

As for the rest, the Great Game exists. It is every bit a world war, ongoing all the time, everywhere, and its existence may well preclude an actual war.

And London will have long pass North before any threat of very modern machines will blight its threshholds.
