Profitably raising scandal?

Hi all,

I have been inspired to compose a grand opera. It’s gonna be amazing, but certain society elements may find it a little objectionable. Okay, they may as a body lift me up and carry me to the docks.

Right now, though, I have a sterling reputation without a hint of scandal. Knowing that I am about to max out my scandal, though, I wonder if perhaps I might profit from ruining my reputation a bit before my opera hits. Is there some great profit to make for someone who is wiling to take up many points of scandal?

Not quite the same thing, but you could cash in all your Tomb-Colonist Favours for items as they’re very easy to gain in exile.

Shaking hands with Rubbery Men to gain favors is the only thing that immediately comes to mind.

I wouldn’t recommend taking this approach. For one thing, it just raises your scandal to 4 or so and then automatically takes you to the tomb-colonies, rather than &quotmaxing out&quot your scandal. For another, scandal and other menace qualities don’t &quotmax out&quot–I got my scandal up to 9 on an extended trip to Polythreme, and because London high society apparently cares so much about faux pas on an living island with sentient chairs, got booted to the tomb-colonies the second I got home. I still had to work my way down from 9.

In other words, whatever the case is, if you raise your scandal now you’ll have a harder time getting back from the colonies.

I think most of the actions that give Scandal + benefit are opportunity cards. Off the top of my head: Siding with Hell in a conflict card vs the Church; a City Vices card that grants Making Waves cp equal to current Scandal, as well as some wine; and posing for the Repentant Forger.

I’d say the last one is a bad deal for most players, now. it does give better epa than standard actions (2-3 echoes), but you’re turning down ([base shadowy] * 0.02) echoes, and a criminals favor as well, on the same section.

However, I’d also mention shaking hands with a rubbery man depending on the situation. With a large stockpile of warm amber you’re turning down a nice prize, but with a small stockpile, and no intention to perform the actions that increase it, you’re going to need to start taking scandal someday, why not now.

Drinking black wings absinthe by yourself is actually a faster way to boost shadowy and dangerous, if you already have the absinthe, than second chances grinding. It also gives 1 cp wounds & 5 cp scandal. however, you should look at aegis’ post: this is a +X scandal, go to tomb colonies, not a &quotset scandal to X&quot. the latter can exist, but are not common.

Wait, second chances GRINDING? Aren’t the only repeatable sources Opportunity Cards and other players?[li]

I wish there were more “money for Menace” options like Seeking Curios & Secrets in the Forgotten Quarter. That’s an excellent way to raise Nightmares for things like catching a Somnolent Hyena.

You want to maximise profit by ensuring you have a potion of vigour. Then get the tomb lion while in the colonies. The colonies are never profitable but you can at least make them less burdensome that way.

So you find one person, or a group of people, who’ll take your social actions, and keep sending them. Maybe you deliberately find one who wants to grind the same stat, and you exchange invites back and forth. maybe you just bombard everyone who is active on your contacts list with requests. Regardless, the point stands. It is an option, and the average cp-per-action is between 4 per action and 8 per action, with one-sixth of a point per action in two other stats.
