Oh my god, Railway and Firmanent are so good! (Or, Why is All the Best Content Late Game)

I just unlocked railway and got into Firmanent last month, and it is amazing. At this point, I’ve gotten used to London, so the novelty of uncovering the secrets of totally new regions is awesome (why are Godfall and the Lung the same thing). But…why is this amazing content so late game? Like, there’s this gap between MYN and Evo that is just a slog. Is there some dev thing that made the pacing weird? To end with more praise: I was surprised by how much I like weekly board meetings. I thought I’d hate it, but it makes me feel less stressed for missing most actions per day and means I get new content in bursts, such that I don’t forget everything. (And wow, the “Your topic is similar to…” bot sucks.)

Probably just order of development! FL was live 15 years or so, and Railway and Firmament are both on the later stage of that.

Also notably, there was a long content drought for maybe five years before the railway was released. This means at the time, most active players had already reached the endgame and so endgame characters were the only available audience for new stories. It’s taken some time for FBG to adjust to having new players again, and so there are some leveling gaps.

Firmament is not good. Railway is good, because Emily Short wrote (much/most? of) it.

I admit I’m not very far, but I have to disagree…I have always loved Shapeling Arts, though, so I’m biased.

I really loved Firmament. I also enjoyed the railway but not quite as much (I think they have adjusted it to be a bit less grindy since I played, which would definitely be a good thing)

I think your Ambition is supposed to feel the gap between MYN and Evo but don’t quote me on that.
