Mr Eaten Content

A few questions:

 1. When does Mr Eaten return D:

 2. If Mr Eaten is in stasis, then is it still canon? Does it still apply to the lore?

 1. This year, next year, eventually. Probably the first two though.
 2. IT BETTER BE. (There are still a lot of references to it, and there’s even a step left in Mahogany hall, so yeah, consider it canon)

I haven’t gotten to Mahogany Hall yet. How do you get there? I mean, I know it exists, but how to get to it through a Name Whispered In Darkness?

I think the only way is to unlock it through your lodgings.

You’ll eventually hit it through the Shadowy Content, I believe. But you’ll still have to pay the (odd) unlock cost for it when you do through “finding new stories” at your lodgings.

Alexis did say it would return this year or the next. Given his leaving Failbetter who knows how accurate that remains, but well. A reckoning shall not be postponed for too long.

There’s a chance Alexis will make/be a part of making the SMEN update himself before he leaves, I assume if he has time after finishing Dandelion Down. And even if not, the fact it was mentioned in his farewell post makes me optimistic.

Since Alexis is apparently looking for new projects, maybe someone will hire him to write SMEN content full time? :-)

Kickstarter? :)

What exactly is this Dandelion thing anyway? Does anyone know? The twitter account is very confusing…

I understood it’s a small new game in the Fallen London world, I recall the word &quotapp&quot being thrown about. Judging by the tweets, maybe looking for a zubmarine or being its captain and trying to get away from the seafloor? I think it’s being kept cryptic and mysterious on purpose.

edit: Also, I’m aware that Alexis just has a program firing the tweets off every hour, but I prefer to think he just has an alarm on his celphone every hour that wakes him up to tweet a new cryptic statement, making him sleep in pieces of 50min just because he wants to weird us out.

Dandelion is a premium, standalone app written in the StoryNexus engine and based on Sunless Sea. It’s about a zubmarine.

By premium, I mean it is a pay-once-for-full-access deal.

I won’t be around these parts, because it’s important Failbetter pursues its own identity without me, but I’ll still be at @alexiskennedy on Twitter, and elsewhere. And be nice to the Failbetter team. They’re golden, and they’re only at the start of what they’re going to do.
It is not like he is leaving because of money issues.
Hannah said on IRC that they aren’t even sure if he’s coming back as a guest writer for ES, either. Just let the good fezkitty sates his wanderlust in peace?

Estelle, I was obviously kidding.
(at least, I felt that it was obvious - hence the two smiley emoticons I’ve used).

What would the rewards for a SMEN Kickstarter be anyway?

£1: You are a fool.
£10: Lose 50 points in each stat
£20: Have your most valuable item removed.
£50: You account gets deleted.
£100: You get a item that locks off all content in game.
£250: Reverse Cider: drinking it makes you deader then dead
£1000: Failbetter comes to your house personally, breaks both your legs and tell you not to persue this.

Thanks! So, to be perfectly clear, Zubmariner and Dandelion are still two different things?

:edit: yes, they are. &quot… Zubmariner (the first expansion for Sunless Sea) and Failbetter’s upcoming game Dandelion.&quot

Thanks for the link, Estelle!

£2000: Alexis will stay in your house to use your computer and internet connection to make the new app.

I have often wondered if I would have the courage to push the button that let you use fate to delete your character.

I still wonder it, in darker moments.

What I want to know is about a certain other more Enigmatic piece of neglected content. Alexis hasn’t said anything on that since the announcement, to my knowledge. I hope there’ll at least be one final update.

Fortunately for you, the apparent quandary is not real. Alexis thought nobody would ever push the button so he never fully implemented the deletion and it just breaks the social list ;)

That’s a lesson, right there.

I was sure that I’d left a comment on this thread earlier in the day, just after TheThirdPolice’s comment.
It wasn’t anything special, so nothing great is lost by its sudden lack of existence; but I’m not sure if I deleted it myself, or if it got removed by a moderator, or if it got gobbled up in a glitch or something.
Weird. :-s
