I am spending an annoying amount of time lately changing outfit pieces one by one. It was fine when there were only 4 stats, but not it makes me not even wnat to play. It’s not even a grind, it’s just tedious. Has Failbetter talked about adding more outfit slots for the new abilities?
Yeah, it was one thing when it was only the BDR to worry about, but it really has gotten a bit ridiculous lately with all the new skills. The constant wardrobe adjustments are turning into a real pain.
Totally agree.
I would like to see Failbetter either announce more slots or create a tool that allows you to either maximize or set a certain amount of, say, BDR, Mithraidcy in order to make the gameplay a bit less…find the item among potentially a plethora (I have 54 different companions and the new stats mean I will require more).
IIRC the last change to the Possessions tab was described as a preparation for introducing more outfit slots. Some time in the future.
Please hurry!
It would also be a great addition, if the search field for outfits also searches the stats (e.g. Glasswork or Dangerous) from items in stead of just the names.
That shouldn’t be a that big change and would speed up the process of swapping outfits. I’m just not that sure about the impact on performance. but since we don’t have thousands of Items for Outftits, I don’t think it would be a that big deal.

I sent in a feedback ticket asking for this a while back; apparently they’ve got other stuff planned first but would take it into consideration.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to search for a name. You could drop the name search; the stat search is what’s needed.
Well, it seems it’s happened. You can switch between any of your outfits from the sidebar of the main story page. The outfits section remembers the components of an outfit, so it’s easy to temporarily swap in items and then have it go back to the old version. You can filter your items to only show ones which grant a given stat. You can even buy more outfit slots for fate. Overall, it’s still a bit clunky from the sheer number of stats to track, but overall a very nice improvement.
However, once you enter a storylet, it seems your attire is locked. While I understand the story reasons why it’s a bit silly for your character to be changing clothes mid conversation, it’s a new form of annoyance. I discovered this trying to switch between my Glasswork and Dangerous items while tracking a certain bear. I feel this is going to be especially frustrating with all the new content that’s coming out, as you don’t always know what stat(s) you’ll need and now you may not be able to change for it.
Mixed feelings, it’s a neat new system but it’s trading one annoyance for another. At least with the tedious version I could be certain my character was as well equipped as possible for the checks I really cared about.
Edit: Ah, I see there’s been an official news thread in the time I was typing this. Yeah, it was the reasons I expected, changing clothes on the fly is very silly, but it’s definitely a major blow to your ability to go through storylets with confidence. Heck, think of all the people with Feducci on their board. If I understand how he works (I don’t have him on my board), they’ll have to go into meetings optimizing for Persuasive and Dangerous.

Yeah, this seems like more of a source of anxiety and a reason to heavily use the wiki before venturing into the unknown. I’m not a big fan.
Now I wish i never asked.

Yeah, this is a real monkey’s paw deal we got here.
Monkey’s paw indeed…
Unlike the last election, I’m in the vast majority. Not a big fan.
