Noted! I see there are benefits to reading the blog entry before replying to the announcement post.
Cannot wait for the Lab improvements, so happy to hear those problems are being worked on. Been spending some time in there again this past couple of weeks, and flipping those cards with the limited hand size is really such a pain. edited by Tsar Koschei on 10/5/2021
Ambition items now have their own slot
Oh, I love, love, love this change. As a Marvellous haver I had been dismayed that the Persuasive/Chess it offered was outpaced or equalled by less exclusive weapons I acquired before it (I couldn’t match Bizarre, but it also never mattered). I adored the little story options it opens up throughout the late-game, and fundamentally I was happy thematically with how I ended the story, but this absolutely removes any regret I had about picking the path I did.
Changes to Hallowmas
I obviously can’t comment on the unknowable parts, but I’m intrigued! And also relieved that the flood of Companions might slow a little bit; it’s becoming a bit crowded down there.
About five other small things!
It feels like Christmas in October! Or, ah, whenever those get released. Especially curious to see Polythreme Reborn, my poor mechanically-benighted, narratively-beloved island.
I gotta say, this makes the Ambition rewards feel as weighty and impactful as they should feel. Thirteen shadowy, two Shapeling Arts, and four BDR for free! Yes, I have changed the face of the very Neath itself, this is commensurate with how awesome my character truly is now.
Really looking forward to the Khanate, I enjoy it much. In fact, I enjoy it even more now. My Treasure strongly identifies my character as Shadowy & Bizarre, so I feel like my Front represents me even better (despite in no way actually being traceable). Looking forward to the stories that will take place. I’m expecting to learn more about the factions or clans, like the Eagle and the Tortoise or whatever they are.
I have high hopes for Polythreme. It’s an interesting place, and its reputation for pain among the playerbase is entirely mechanical. An update could work wonders for it.
Am I supposed to be able to use my robe of Mr Cards in both the treasure slot and the old one? I’m assuming it’s a bug but Christ the bonuses are insane and it seems like I do get the bonus from wearing both at once
My outfit that had Robe of Mr Cards had the robe equipped in the Treasure slot and nothing in the Clothing slot when I loaded it up today. I didn’t do anything to un-equip it as Clothing. The robe is not an option to equip in its old slot.
Mine was still firmly insisting it was a companion when I logged in. But I had it equipped, and when I switched outfits it moved to its new home in the Treasure category like a good little star. I would give it a nice pat on the head if my arms were long enough.
Now I just have to figure out which is my next highest ranking Shadowy creature or person, as I have a vacancy. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, and it wouldn’t be, were it not for the fact that I seem to have accumulated somewhere in the region of a hundred thousand companions over the years.
Edit: Just discovered the filter. Never noticed that before. How incredibly useful that is. Minister of Enigmas it is, then! edited by Plynkes on 10/7/2021
I have Chess 17 now, which I guess is a rather strong level? Would this be enough to make the Moonlit Chessboard worth playing? Are there any other locations with rewards that scale by Chess skill?
Glasswork 16 is my second best, followed by some 14s. Are there any good grinds that put the high levels to work?
Have to say, I’m quite glad I was able to give my brother a name while he still was a Companion - he seems to have been withdrawn from the storylet now. Hopefully the once-companion Treasures will retain the name perpetually.
As for the clan infiltration, it’s quite nice so far. For a second there, I seem to have had an idea for a very cool new Companion somewhere down the line, but I seem to have forgotten. Well, it was probably of No Consequence anyway…
You know, if I’m not figuring this EPA all wrong then it’s starting to look like switching to Midnighter and grinding epaulette mates at PoC 18 might not be an altogether bad idea. Depends on just how you’re supposed to value pawns, which I’m not sure about.
Those epaulette mates sell okay upriver, too, which would make it solid for grinding hellworm funds if the EPA checks out.
Pawns are roughly valued at 10 pence each, but cashing them in is hard. One option is that if the Chessboard is dominant in Parabola, there’s an option to spend them to force a Stalemate. Another is to use them in bulk for Backstory, which can be used in the Clay Highwayman’s camp for goods convertible into Scrip (Fabulous Diamond via the Hurlers, or Prismatic Frame via the Bone Market).
Playing Chess used to be considered decent when a high value for Player of Chess was, like, 15. It must be even better at 18, although you’re starting to hit diminishing returns.
Huh, now we have weekly reward in Khanate. FL is becoming more and more like all other MMOs, where you log in, deal with all weakly/daily quests and log off.
