For those few who have sipped the tea, how hard does the game work to try to get you to select a new ambition? Is it a lot of cards? A permement storylete? Do you get caught by an autofire and have to back out now and then?
I’ve heard stories of people accidently giving themselves "the other ambition" and being locked out of the real 4…
The only way to be locked out of the four ambitions is to choose one of those four ambitions. The bug at the root of those stories you’ve heard has been removed from reality. Besides, it’s highly unlikely anyone will accidentally begin [insert a euphemism here] on accident.
There are no cards associated with not having an Ambition.
Taking the Tea Leaves is like never picking up an Ambition an the first place. The game never forces you.
As long as you haven’t chosen any of the 4 main Ambitions, the starter storylet for each of them can be found in the relevant starting area (i.e. Spite, Veilgarden, Ladybones Road, Watchmaker Hill).
There’s also no problem having the “secret” Ambition in addition to one of the 4 main ones.
I thought I’d seen a post about somebody getting the other first, and being locked out, but yes, if I’d seen that, surely it’s fixed, or never happened.
I’ve an idea you see, an alt that drinks down the tea, in order to get newspaper results faster, with the goal of having the most newspaper ever.

Huh? How would that help?
If you mean to have the alt so your main can send them the interview requests when the cards arrive, then why use the Tea Leaves (which cost lots of Fate, or require making considerable progress in one Ambition)? You can always use 3 alts, each choosing one of the Ambitions that your main didn’t.
You can always send out all four kinds. You can just only /receive/ interviews regarding your present ambition.[/quote]
You can only draw the cards to request an interview about an Ambition other than your own.
This is not entirely true. In the later stages of SMEN you can truely abandon all ambition as part of acquiring a candle. Unfortunately, this process also means swearing off things like professions and notabiliy for the rest of your life so I would not recommend it.
