I was wondering what sort of length of game average play throughs on this are? I was hoping it wasn’t a short game (baring any early deaths, hehe)
To when? Death? Retirement? Until tired of a single playthrough and needing a break?
Yeah, lots of potential stopping points.
But I’ll put it this way. I started a new game for Corsair’s Gold Edition. I’m currently 30 hours in, have explored probably 65% to 70% of available content, have a town house, and am about 4k shy of buying my Frigate.
So tentatively I’d say, 40 to 50 hours for reasonably complete playthrough. More or less depending on how cautiously you play.

In a single playthrough, Mordaine :)
Thanks for that info, Nenjin.
I usually play for an hour or two at a time. Less if I have a frustrating death and walk away, longer if I’m on a hot streak with the RNG or chasing a new story.
Thanks again. I was hoping this could keep me occupied for a long while, as it looks really good.
Your game auto saves when you dock and, if you are playing Merciful, you can only save when you are docked. So that kind of limits playing time … you can take the minutes between close together ports or you can go on playing for as long as you want. I try to aim for hour or so sessions but it is very addictive, to me, and I can find that two hours has passed without me really noticing.
There’s more content in this incomplete game than many complete games will ever have. Don’t get me wrong, I want more, but I think I’d actually be content with all the finished stuff if Failbetter ceased development right now, given the price and the quality of the experience. Greenlight or not, Sunless Sea is an excellent investment, and will only improve with time.
