June’s Exceptional Story: The Bones of London

Kinda hoping the ending was more. There was a society for it and I guess I didn’t feel like that they were really there… And I was kinda hoping to learn more about the Old London personally.

Though I’d like to pick this up when I can repeat this for the Map as a Home Comfort.

Late to the party (as usual), but here are my thoughts in this one:

I wasn’t excited about the story at first. But once you meet the Society hings got more interesting. After years of playing Fallen London I’ve gotten used to seeing all the altered names of places, so I got chills when I’ve read: &quotThe names are strange: Knightsbridge, Elephant and Castle, Marble Arch. These are maps of London before the Fall.&quot I was much more engaged from that point on.

I liked the various conversations with random characters around town, learning bits of old history of London from people’s memories.

However, I had two significant problems with the story:

  • It ended really abruptly. (Just: &quotOh, BTW, this thing happened so the story is done - make a final choice&quot).[/li][li]I did not like any of the end choices. As others have mentioned, there really should have been an option to either return the map to the Society, or alternatively make it clear that you’re keeping it but letting them have access.

[/li][/ul]I figured that the Society were no longer in a position to safely keep the map, so passing it along to sympathisers/a like-minded archive represented following the Society’s wishes for it.

But I am a sympathiser, and given the amount of rare, unique, and/or extremely valuable stuff sitting in my inventory, my house is clearly a suitable safekeeping archive. And yet I:

  1. Apparently hung the map in plain view; now that is not proper archiving, and is conductive neither to preservation of the fragile parchment nor to secret keeping of highly illegal contraband - in fact the fact that you can do this with zero consequences just plain doesn’t make sense, unless you’re willing to perform some advanced mental gymnastics about the Masters being fully aware but explicitly making an exception for you or something (possibly based on the very vague and frankly somewhat out-of-place mysterious benefactor encountered during mapping); and
  2. Snobbed off the society: apparently they of all people aren’t even aware I still have the map safe and sound. Which goes completely against what I wanted to achieve - in fact I would have been happy to host society meetups at my place, at least as a &quottemporary&quot measure (until they regroup at some point in the narratively-never-happening future).

In the end I did keep the map and just mostly ignored the result text, as it’s so unfitting that it almost seems like some kind of mistake or misunderstanding that slipped past QC/review.

I know I am fairly late to this party, so I apologize for dragging this thread out of obscurity. I do however have an issue with this story, probably due to my own lacking mind.
How excactly do I proceed after collecting enough map detail? I have fully covertly surveyed both Veilgarden, Spite, Watchmaker’s Hill and Ladybones road. I have oodles of map detail, so what now?

Get in touch with support. This has happened to me in the past, and they will fix it.
