I’m curious what everyone chose as their possible future… I want to potentially be the destroyer of the document but… the image of July on stage frozen with an unfathomable expression… to have the chance to be the painter of such a work of art calls to me.
What potential future were others called to?
I should probably go with Revealer of Reflections, since that would fit well with my Parabola destiny… except that waiting until Paris to steal the mirror seems like a strange future to me, since the mirror is right before me, so why not steal it now. Then again Orts seem unreliable and I doubt dealing with them is a good idea in the first place, so I am also tempted to sell the mirror to the masters and be done with it. I just let the story sit for now since there is no hurry to choose.
I destroyed the document and preserved that future. I couldn’t turn down absorbing even a fraction of a power that can rewrite reality. What happened to Paris and the Neath was entirely secondary to that.
I note that my potential Parisian destiny is dated 1911… a full 3 years after my current Revelation one is due to occur. So I guess the two are not mutually exclusive. Constructing an in-character timeline/narrative is becoming more difficult!
I preserved that future, because what July accomplished was too important. My character doesn’t usually care about more than how much he is paid, but that… that was different.
But I don’t even remember what I chose to do, silly me. I think I stole something, something important… And sold it. Oh, that poor memory of mine.
I just bought this story for 45 Fate and played through it in one sitting (echoed from here). I can only join in the praise! I feel like I just left the cinema after watching a gripping alternate-history thriller! But that last choice… god, it took me almost half an hour to decide what I would do, there was no "right" choice in the true sense of the word. I would’ve liked being able to "really" save July, but FL never gives us easy options like that, does it?
An absolutely minor disappointment was only that there was no option involving my "Backstage" destiny which is so heavily linked with Parabola… but yeah, totally minor.
More of this, please! ;)
I’ve been replaying good old Star Control II when I had a terrible realization about the Orts:
You think you see Orts but Orts are not light reflections. Maybe you think Orts are many bubbles too. It is such a joke. Orts are not many bubbles like campers. Orts are just Orts. I am Orts. I am one with many fingers. My fingers reach through into heavy space and you see Orts bubbles but it is really fingers.
I just purchased this story, and holy guacamole is it good. I especially love the word play in "Mourvèdre" - brilliant.
Sorry to bother what is the best choice for July?
Giving her the mirror, obviously.

Why not smashing an setting her free and allowing her memories to return to the real person?

Vavakx is very very very supportive of whatever the fingerkings do. He may be a bit biased.
Smashing the mirror is probably the best for her, perhaps not for other parties involved.

Arguably, July’s memories in Parabola are a bit of a biased source too. And Paris is an important mission that you should not muddle with your mirror-breaking shenanigans.
P.S. LiR also seems to conflict with Varchas on how mirror-breaking affects the Fingerkings’ power & abilities. Which is weird.

I think I will return the mirror. I need to steal Paris Contract to prevent it to become the Six City. Breaking the window destroys that dream.
I’ve heard such good things about this story and it’s currently on sale, but I’m also working towards Paramount Presence right now so I’m concerned about the mandatory stat loss I saw mentioned.
Can anyone elaborate on that a little? Does it affect all stats or just one? Depending on that answer, it may be manageable for me or not.
It affects all stats and needs to be repeated several times to see everything.
It affects all stats, but not by as much as, say, Irrigo 8. And it’s my new favorite story–quite possibly the best-written Exceptional Story, period–and it’s got a whammy of a final choice that I have had to postpone. I’m not at the PP grind yet, but I’m getting close with a couple of stats, and it was totally worth it. And at one point you can choose to witness just version of an event, thus minimizing stat loss, but the story’s so good you may want to do it more than once.

Lots of posts here saying that the results of such-and-such a choice is shown in a character’s echoes. After some time has gone by (3 years in most cases) these links are either -way- back in the character’s Journal or don’t work at all.
I suppose it’s thematic that these memories have been lost …

This post has all the links (many thanks to an_ocelot for preserving them): http://community.failbettergames.com/topic20120-julys-exceptional-story-lost-in-reflections.aspx?Page=2#post104979
You might need to replace the ~ by spaces in a couple of cases.
EDIT: I hardly ever have anything to say about Exceptional Stories, but this one was really, really good. The only thing I regret is putting it off for so long! I shudder to think how much longer I might have gone without playing it if not for the sale.
Also, I now have a new avatar. Couldn’t resist the temptation, the art is so so good.

Just finished the story for myself. Now I know how Samurai Jack felt at the end of “Jack and the Archers”; that last choice was very difficult.
This was incredibly well-written and I’m super happy the story gave me the choice to see more of the options as I went through it.
Highly recommend to anyone who’s looking into Exceptional Stories!
