JULY'S EXCEPTIONAL STORY: Lost in Reflections

I got to set back the [CENSORED] of [REDACTED]! This is a joyous day.

I may have missed an explanation, but how come our characters and other Neath citizens such as July were able to walk around on the Surface without dying?

If the dates are of any indication, that future is 15 years away. Even July can grind out a firkin of Cider in 15 years.

It’s possible to come to the Neath and return to the Surface ala your inconvenient aunt.
It’s those of us who have died, become changed or absorbed too much Neathean essence that we are more &quotIs Not&quot than &quotIs&quot that we have to worry about.
I also presume the Fingerkings have something to do with it. Perhaps we’re simply possessing someone else?

Perhaps all of this is so much &quotIs Not&quot that it transcends law, like much of the Parabola?

Such a great story. By far my favorite!

Arrrrgghhhhh! My shortsightedness is my undoing! I saw that most had chosen to do the right thing, and so decided that I would use my three characters to do the wrong things. And so my first alt to make the final choice decided to betray July. To her erstwhile colleagues. I realised that I would lose the future where I would, well, do something dramatic and terrible and cool. I just didn’t think that doing so would Advance the revolutionariers’ goals. I’ve tried hard to avoid that particular quality, and I’m so annoyed with myself in getting it now. I’m blaming my beer. This July is just too hot.

Well, like they say: A Season of Revolutions is the only way to get your Baroque to 300. Plans within plans! Wheels within wheels! Plans with wheels, and fugilin explosions!

Something odd: if you choose to loop through her future-dreams, it says it’ll “cost you a little more of your past,” but unlike on your way in, you don’t lose attributes. In fact, each dream you see gives you around 5 CP towards one attribute or another, making it superior to grinding stats via challenges, and in a repeatable loop. Are these memories supposed to be lowering attributes rather than raising them?

Great story! Thank you.

I played through with my three characters.
http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Third~Walker Took a massive hit to his stats, and explored every possible future. He then chose to keep his future

http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Stroller was more comfortable with winter months, and regretted it.

http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/RandomWalker is dancing with glee! He finally managed to rid himself of a quality that he thought impossible to remove. The other rewards for betraying humanity were also nice.

I thought this was an excellent, very atmospheric and satisfying story … and it ended on a particularly exciting note, since I discovered (on an alt) that after giving back the mirror, the option to Consider it didn’t disappear! In other words, an infinitely repeatable 12.5epa action.

In the White Hat spirit, I just tested the loop a few times and then waited to post this until support@failbetter replied that it had been fixed. But I expect there will be people who bought action refreshes just to exploit this as hard as possible while it lasted …

Interestingly, one of the futures mentions &quotLike many Neathers who’ve returned to the Surface… so presumably something’s happened that has allowed quite a lot of returning

At one point their are four choices with each connected to one of the main stats. Does anyone know what differences they each have?

If I understand these echoes correctly, there is no unique memento (coughMarshHousecough) for any of the choices, right?

I got the impression that there are 2, or possibly 3, mutually exclusive unique takeaways

*Your future, which it’s strongly implied will be used by some future content.
*Whatever a &quotcabinet of curiosities&quot is.
*Possibly whatever reward there is for the fourth ending option.

So of the four options, only 1 or 2 don’t seem to give a unique reward. Wow.

Is the second one this?

If so, it’s not unique, I’m afraid.

I did what I believed to be the right thing, and am thoroughly miserable about what it cost me! That’s not a complaint, by the way, just a status report. Maybe if the unique statuses turn out to unlock something really brilliant in the future I’ll pay the fate to replay and choose a different path, but for now I have every intention of sticking to my guns.

Argh, I can’t get exceptional friendship and this story sounds AMAZING. STOP MOCKING ME WITH YOUR HAPPINESS!

Giving my french character who truly disliked the capital a chance to meddle with french politics was fun, too bad I’m not too sure how I will deal with this when I go back to updating my RP diary

Well then. That was fun. Painful and frighteningly confusing when settling on a choice, but fun nonetheless and the best Exceptional Story yet. That being said, do we know what occurs for the final options and what rewards each one offers? I tried to take the high road and would enjoy knowing what results I ended up declining.

Can someone PM me the rewards you can get at the end of the story? So far thoroughly enjoying myself!!
