I’m grinding for scrip in Helicon House and my Investigating… is rising without bound. I know all the hidden places of Helicon. What else does one investigate that is worth a lot of Scrip or Echoes? I have all train stops, and the Parabolan Base Camp to work from.
As of now, Investigating… seems to be have a rational cap at something between 5 to 8 to be cashed in (and reset) for 5.40 Echos in The Flit (The Heights of Chicanery).
You can spend a few points of it to reduce banditry by a few points on the card from the end of the Clay Highwayman storyline.

3 Actions (Train from Ealing to The Flit and Back, plus the action) for 5.4 is 1.8 EPA. If I’m back to do messages or to check the dream-cards, this might be a way to prop up the value of such return trips. Otherwise, it’s a cheap diversion.

Err… your calculation is incorrect here. For the travel back to london you get a Rumor of the upper River therefore its 2.5E + 5.4E = 7.9E, which results in 2.63EpA.
That still isn’t the big deal, compared to other grinds, but at least above traveling around with the train.
Last I checked you got nothing from traveling from Ealing to London. It’s been a while since I checked, though, because I’ve been avoiding doing that.
Hmm… could also be a mixup in my mind and it was the way from london to Earling that gives you the rumor.
I wasn’t in ealing during the last weeks, but I’m almost sure that you get rumors only for only one way (unlike the other stations). Unless I’m completely wrong here, the outcome of 2.63 EpA is still correct.
My 5.4 E cash in was meant to be taken in as a side effect when you´re switching between Railroadland and main London anyways. Wouldn´t recommend it as the only reason to travel back and forth.
You should be grinding Fascinating in Helicon, unless you have a very specific use for Investigating.
Fascinating increases the overall value of the Helicon grind.
You can use the Canal Workers in the Upper River card to return to London with a bit of profit. If you have business in Parabola you can also use one of the mirrors to save a trip, as well.
Ealing has no mirror to reach from Parabola…does it? If I mirror hop to Balmoral or the Station VIII (?), I still need a train-action to get to Ealing, in my current game.

No, but you can go straight from Ealing if you’ve drawn the An Unattended Mirror card.

A train-action to get to Balmoral or Station VIII is still better than a train-action to London, since it gives you a 2.5E Rumour of the Upper River.
